Gents,

I need some advice on Reamer specs. I will be ordering a reamer for a .243win build running 115 Dtacs. I would like to know if there is a reamer that:

Has approx .003-.004 nk clearance for skim turned Lapua brass.
Keeps the DTAC bearing surface forward of the neck/shoulder junction
Has a COAL short enough to feed from AI or Alpha mags
Is closely matched to Lapua brass dimensions for min case expansion.

Alternately forget the above and recommend me a .243 reamer and tell me why it's a good option.

Appreciated.

Re: .243 DTAC Reamer

I was looking for a .243 reamer last year and talked with Dave Kiff @ Pacific Tool regarding the different options for the heavier bullets.

He has a reamer that he and David Tubb apparently got together on and I think that it may be very similar to what you are after.

Good luck!

I have two .243 Reamers, one neck is .272" and the other is .275" The .275" neck reamer is best used for Lapua Brass as some of the brass will measure .272" / .273" when loaded.

Re: .243 DTAC Reamer

Thanks, I just loaded up some Lapua brass with 115gr dtacs, necks =.273. I think a .275 neck will be spot on. I will probably skim turn for a .272 loaded round giving me .003 clearance.

As long as your loaded rounds are no smaller than .005" under the chamber neck diameter, run out wont be an issue on your fired, sized, loaded ammo. I try to maintain a chamber neck thats no larger than .005" over a loaded round. Works great that way.

Re: .243 DTAC Reamer

Thanks William, I'm not after a tight neck but don't want huge room either for the run out issues you mention, I think .003 is a nice compromise.

Now to work out how much freebore I need for the dtacs...

Cheers,
Rath

Call Dave at PTG, he'll get you squared away in that area. He's usually spot on.
