My 243 needed a new barrel I've made it through the wait and it's in the mail on its way from SAC. 26" Bartlien 7.7 twist is what I went with. When I bought it used it was a hammer with 115 moly dtac and RL-25 at 3080. Don't know exact round count it made it to since I didn't start with it new but with cost and wait of a new barrel I'm looking to balance performance and barrel life if possible. I have the new rebated dtac on hand so increased bc and I have 3 options for powder on hand in decent supply.

H4831sc
RL25
H1000

I know the rl25 will perform but are either of the others better option for 2950-3050 fps and not toasting the barrel in 1000 to 1200 rounds? Or is that just the reality of a 243 and just load it to 3050+ With whatever and buy more barrels???

its not like your going to double the life to 3000 rounds by backing off the powder to shoot 2950 vs 3050. i'd say let it eat, and it goes when it goes. but that's me

I have been really happy with H4831SC. Yes, you can double the barrel life by backing off the powder (but you will have to drop more than to 115s at 2950), and the 4831SC is also a little easier on barrels than some of the others. I have two RPRs and 4 barrels in .243Win and have been experimenting with them to see the differences.

I shoot a Krieger 26 in barrel in 1-7.5 twist. I was shooting 105 Hybrid at 3070 with H4831sc Norma brass, moved to shooting 115 DTAC with H1000 46.0 Gr, CCI BR2 and Norma brass getting 3005 avg. SD-I of 13 1/3 MOA. For me using H1000 gave a better shot avg. then the 4831sc did. This is probably due to the case in near capacity with the H1000. I could have pushed harder but the groups started to open up above 46.0 grains. Good luck.

As a add to my previous. I was pushing 105s at 3400fps out of a 30" 8.5tw with RL26 but it was pressure with a heavy bolt lift. Found a real nice node at 3374fps but it was a hot load. I backed down to 3185fps as that was the best node with 44.7g of RL26. Single digit SD and ES. That barrel lasted 1300 rounds. I'm now shooting that same load 44.7g of RL26 with 105s at 3200fps on the new barrel with great results. Test target below. 5 shot group at 100y. I also tried DTACs with RL26. I got them to 3152 with excellent results as well(Info attached) but settled back to the 105s as I had 1000 more of those and I only shoot it to 600yds. Another side note. I tried RL25 with DTACs and found it to hold tighter groups with RL26 and the RL25 had higher SDs/ESs. Hope some of this helps.

Wow thanks for the great info! I think I'll leave the RL25 out of the mix for now. Haven't been able to find any RL26 in stock, also not been searching for any recently. I think I will start with 4831sc and see if I can get velocity results and accuracy I am looking for. I got a lab radar earlier this winter and has been a game changer for load development. Used to only chronograph my final few test loads since it was a pain to setup my shooting chrony. Now just set on bench and turn on so every round I shoot will be ran in front of it during development. I will keep some good notes and return the favor by sharing what I find. Still tempted to try a few with H1000 but my win mag will eat it up pretty fast so would like to run something else. Might try to find some 26 if I struggle up front with 4831.

I have got 105 RDF's at 40.9 of H4350 at 3030 factory barrel. I have seen and heard good things about H4831sc and trying to get a gauge on what others are running it at. I load up to 44.5 gr of H4831 and was only at 2990 for velocity as in initial test.
