25-06 ?

Re: 25-06 ?

Large rifle. Many say Winchester is the best for 25-06. I have read it more than one place so that's what I use.

55 gr H4831 under 100gr TSX is my hunting load winny case and primmer

Re: 25-06 ?

Thanks for the replies, I have been using Large Rifle Primers, never even thought about the Magnums till today. If you like the 100 tsx's you ought to give the 80 grain tipped tsx's a try, all I can say is incredible on whitetails. I tried 62 grains H4831sc, shot slightly less than MOA and dropped kicked the shit out of two whitetails a couple of weeks ago. I have been hunting a while and this is the most devastating load I've used to date.

Re: 25-06 ?

I'm fixing to work up a couple of loads for 120 grain flat base spitzers using Varget and IMR 4350. I tried a few with IMR 4895 MV 2770 fps. They did OK. But there was a bit of vertical in the groups and the load density was on the low side. The cases were only about 1/3rd full.

+1... On that. For the 100s it a very good powder. Do you have any charge weights for 120s? I'm figuring somewhere around 48 to 49 grains.

Re: 25-06 ?

never tried the 120's thought about it but 100's shoot so damn good. I use 51 gr for the 100 gr so 48-49 sounds about right i'd personally go 47 first just to be safe since I've never shot 120gr anything out of it before. what brand/kind of bullet were you looking at going with? I started shooting 100gr noslers just because midway has them cheap all the time come to find out they shot awesome, always looking to try new loads tho. I tried varget on some of the 100 grainers didn't do as well as 4350, but might do better with heavier bullets. I thought about trying 117gr sst's

Re: 25-06 ?

When I first started loading for the 25-06 I used a lot of Winchester ball type powder. Then they quit making the one I used for 120s. I had a lot loaded and didn't need to load any 120s for a long time. The primary use for the load is hunting. I lost a couple of deer early on. Then I learned about Nosler Partitions. I've used them ever since on anything bigger than a coyote. Never lost an animal since. I work the loads up using Speer flat base spitzers. Then drop the load a little and work back up for the Nosler Ps. Back when I was still working I bought a sh*t pot full of the Nosler Partitions. But they're still expensive to play around with.

I have some 25 cal Barnes X type bullets ordered. But for now it's the Noslers.

This is the first time in about 15 years I've planned on venturing into the deer woods for hunting. My oldest son-in-law tricked me into it.

I'll post what kind of results I end up with.

Re: 25-06 ?

Our season opens again here the 19th until about 10-JAN-2010. I wasn't able to hunt the first half.

I'll be hunting on a friends family farm. But I'm not able to climb the ridges and hollers of the highlands like I once did.

I have the loads out in the shop for the 100s. I'll post them tomorrow when I get it.

I have had great success with Federal 215M's with R25 and 120 gr Sierra 120 gr BTHP. I was using a reg 210 and decided to try the mag primer. I did drop the powder charge and worked back up, the 215 gained 30 fps over the 210 with everything else being the same.

Your results can vary, remember when a change in a component is made, it's always wise to drop the powder charge back and then work back up.

I copied and pasted this from the depot.........

I have been getting great results with believe or not.....Reloder 25 and Sierra's 120 gr HPBT, shoots in the .3's

Cooper M22
Winchester Brass
Sierra 120 BTHP
57.5gr R-25
215M
OAL 3.200"

Averages 3110fps out of my 24" bbl

*NOTE*
Alliant's max load is 58.0 grs with R25. I went to using the 215M's due to me running low on the 210M's. I did reduce my loads and worked back up and found out that I gained appx 25fps using the magnum primer over the standard.
I am really impressed with using this slow powder in the 25-06 as it's velocity is a bit more than I was able to achieve with my favorite, R-22. I would be interested in others trying something like this and see what results they get.

These are only 3 shot groups, I really cant explain the far upper right group.

I've never gotten the accuracy with the 120grs that I get with the 100's. I use Reloader 22, most accurate powder I've found in my M77. This caliber seems to work best at near maximum loads. YMMV

Use Magnum Primers if it is going to be below freezing.
I have been useing TSX for 3 years and they all get smacked down. Now I am useing T-TSX. Here is my last kill and I recovered the bullet.

62 grains H4831sc that would be one smoking hot load! Is that compressed? You must be pushing 3500

I hope the hunting in eastern TN is better than in western NC. deer hunting in my area sucks. tomorrow is the last day of season here, good luck!

These loads work really well in MY RIFLE. In these loads I am using new Remington brass and Winchester standard primers. If you choose to copy these loads you are doing it on your own. Lower the powder charge and work them up on your own.

87 grain Sierra 53.0 grains of IMR 4350

Re: 25-06 ?

I am using 53gr of IMR 4831 with 110gr Nosler Accubonds, and Federal Large Rifle primers. I am totally about loading for accuracy>speed but the IMR 4831 gave me the tightest groups as well as higher velocities than the 4350 or RL22. I am getting .78" groups out of a stock Ruger M77 with a Timney trigger. I cannot express how happy I am with the Accubond in all of my rifles

Re: 25-06 ?

The load I use is:

115 gr NBT/Berger
52.5 gr Re 22
Win Brass
WLR Primers

This load shoots in the .2's consistently

I used F210 prmiers but the WLR primers made a world of difference for me so I stuck with it. Use with caution and work up in your rifle if using this load.

Re: 25-06 ?

My load of choice for years has been;
49 gr. of old H4831
R-P brass
210M primer
120 Sierra game king
Out of a Ruger 77 with 28" Lilja 9 twist this gave 3100 and change. Though the game king is a hpbt I could find no fault in it's performance on game.
