260 jump advice

Hey y'all,

I'm about to start working up a load for my little 260 build. Its on a savage 110 action, 26" shilen 1:8". I'm loading 142 gr SMKs and had planned to run h4350. Where would you start off/into the lands?

Starting off?

I loaded them from .010"-.030" for my buddy's Surgeon/Rock/AICS/Jewel Synder build. Ran the 140 AMAX at about that range, as well. I used AA-4350, then H-4350, 210Ms and RP brass, FWIW.

You can always get a baseline 'charge weight' dialed in first and then when you're hitting your desired velocity node for that barrel, you can play around with seating depth.

SMKs can stand a jump just fine.

What is your distance to the lands, and how long can you load them and still feed out of the magazine. My current load is a 142smk loaded at 2.850ish so magazine feeding is reliable, I only use Win 243 or Win 7-08 resized to 260(if you don't neck turn only use 7-08) 44.5 H4350 and CCi BR2 or 200s, 2790fps with low single digit spreads, Win brass has .5-.7 more case capacity, hence the ridiculous high charge, my barrel also has 4000 rounds down it

I'd jump them. I'd run them at what ever OAL you can reliably feed from the magazine at and start there.

I just used a choate tactical adjustable stock with the factory blind box mag on a long action, so I can jam it a mile as far as magazine length is concerned. Now, I don't know whether that could cause any problems feeding or not.

I use .02 on my A-max load and .04 on 130 berger vlds and .015 on the Lapua 139 scenar. I have tried 142 smk's but my gun doesnt seem to care much for them, its a trail and error thing. Your gun may like them but as has aready been said.

0.02" jump would be a reasonable place to start.
