260 on a LA powder advice

I have a 260 built on a long action and the ability to seat the bullet out as far as possible to gain a some extra speed. My current load is with RL 19 and it is around 2900fps. Any advice on other powders to try? I would like to push this bullet as fast as possible out of my 25" barrel.

Specs:
Remington 700 long action
Shilen barrel
Would like to shoot 140 bergers
Win primer
RP brass

For bullets of that weight class, I rely on H-4350, with charges at or below 44gr.

I am very happy with 2850fps out of my 28" L-W barrel, and honestly think you're not gaining much with higher velocities.

When deciding between maximum and adequate velocities, I choose adequate; it works longer. I shudder when folks install an exquisite barrel, then condemn it to an early death by driving it at maximum overdrive.

Re: 260 on a LA powder advice

4831sc would never produce the velocities I wanted with the Berger 140btlrs in my 24" krieger. So I stuck with h4350. But if I could have loaded them long like you I may retry 4831sc. But as usual, I agree with Greg.

If you want more speed then maybe a longer barrel is the ticket.

If you need my speed then maybe a different cartridge like 6.5X284 should have been your chambering.

I'll take accuracy over speed anyday.

I woudl rather run a longer barrel at a moderate speed than a shorter one flat out.

Less muss 'n fuss in the engine room usually means a wider smile span.

+1 ... I value barrel/component life more than velocity.
