260 Remington Brass?

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

Win 7-08, I size it down with a Redding 260 type s die with a 290 bushing and the expander ball installed, after firing I remove the expander, I also sometimes use a Forster FL die to size it down.

Do you have to do any neck work on the 7-08 or do you resize and shoot?

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

Rem 260 brass if you can find it. With a little prep it shoots greats. I messed with the whole neck-downed 308 mess... it works, but that is exactly what it is, a mess.

Factory Rem 260 runs fine. I got mine at midway a year ago.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

I do give my brass a skim turn, it is not required for sub 1/2 MOA ammo, but it does elliminate donuts, improve run out, and gives IMHO a more consistent release which I can see in my chrono readings, Win brass is much harder than Rem, the primer pocket last longer, and I do anneal after 5 firings.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

Hello! I bought Remington brass down at Cabelas in Dundee. Other brass like Lapua from Graf & sons. I bought some Nosler, that is the worst, 1 or 2 firings and the primer pockets are blown out. JUNK ! Cabela shooting catalog shows Remington 260 at $57.99 a 100. The Lapua runs around $90. to $100 per 100. People don't think the Remington is any good but some have 8-10 firings.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

The Winchester 7-08 necked down has worked great for me. I bought some Lapua a while back but I haven't gotten around to trying it.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

I have tried Remington, Winchester 7/08 and Lapua. I had a lot of help when I began shooting the 260 from 427Cobra. Lapua is the most consistent (through Chrono)for me with the least amount of work but it is the most expensive. I really like the winchester 7/08 and is super easy to make by running it through 260 body die then using a 290 bushing with floating carbide sizer (1st time) then your ready. Winchester for me has held up the best and seems to handle higher end pressure better but just be prepared to anneal.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

Before any real .260 brass was available, I found that Winchester .308 brass run thru a 7-08 die without the expander button in it and then in a FL .260 die worked just fine. Yes they were a little short, but they were all the same, so no matter. You'll accomplish the same by starting out with Win 7-08 brass - the good thing is that it will be Winchester brass.

On a side note, I also found that necking up Lapua .243 brass, left you with .260 brass with necks thicker than Winchester .308's necked down.....go figure. Still using both, so the jury is out on which will last longer.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

I've necked up Win 243 in the past. I prefer to neck up as a general rule as you it reduces possibility of somebody putting a 260 in a 7-08 chamber (if you neck down 7-08). I don't see a 260 loaded round being chambered into a 243.

My concern has always been pushing the bullet back into the case on a .243 case with a .260 projectile while chambering in a .260. I think I would rather take my chances with a .260 in a 7-08.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

Necking up presents other problems like donuts from hell, if your too stupid to chamber the correct ammo in the correct weapon maybe you should find another hobby.

Re: 260 Remington Brass?

In one of my 260's I've ran RP brass in 260 & 7-08, WW brass in 7-08, Lapua 243 brass and Nosler brass in 260 & 7-08. For me, the Nosler has been the absoulte best as far as accuracy goes.

The Lapua had to be neck turned after being necked up and had a donut in it.

The Remington/WW was good inside of 400 yards but past that it went to $hit

The Nosler kicked all ass. Several 3" groups at 1k and groups in the .1's at 100 & 200 yards.

The new Lapua 260 brass will require a chamber neck of .295" so check that first other wise you may be neck turning.
