Per the subject I am more than likely going to be building an AR-15 Upper Receiver Assembly in one of the above chamberings. From the research I have gathered I understand that they are basicaly the same cartridge with minor differences in the neck diameter of the chamber and the dimensions and angle of the throat.

More specifically I am going to be putting this upper receiver together strictly for a Hunting Gun, primarily for Whitetail Deer and Coyotes to be used by not only myself but also by my petite wife and grandkids. I have pretty much decided on a 18" Barrel and insist on it being stainless-steel (I am a stainless-steel fanattic, what can I say).

Both barrels I am looking at are roughly the same price (18" .264 LBC AR Stoner Barrel from Midway USA $329.99 or a 18" 6.5 Grendel Alexander Arms $320.00). Both barrels include the bolt with the barrel.

I have the upper receiver I am going to use, a DPMS FLat Top Low Pro Classic slick side upper and will more than likely use a DPMS Carbon Fiber Free Float Tube to keep weight down.

Which barrel would you go with and why considering this is to be a Hunting AR?

Thanks

Larry

Re: .264 LBC or 6.5 Grendel

I've used more than one of both chambers, and noticed no difference in accuracy or reliability.

That being said, I have no experience with the particular barrels you're considering. But I tend to think the overall quality of the barrel is more important than which chamber it has.

Re: .264 LBC or 6.5 Grendel

The name for the chamber only matters to lawyers. Pick the *barrel* you want, not the chamber you want. The AA barrels are Lothar Walther I believe; they are a bit more established than AR Stoner.

Re: .264 LBC or 6.5 Grendel

They are basically the same but the 6.5 works the neck more than the .264LBC.. so you may get longer case life out of an LBC vs 6.5G. One thing to look at is if you plan on getting a muzzle device (brake/suppressor) that you get something with standard threads for .308cal vs the odd 6.5 threads.

Re: .264 LBC or 6.5 Grendel

I have both
i reload and shoot the same rounds through both and they are as accurate as each other, i see no difference

1. is AA 6.5 g 18 inch
2. 264 LBC barrel bolt combo from Midway AR stoner

like i said i see no difference in accuracy, AR stoner is lighter but both are 18 inch stainless
