Gunsmithing 264 win mag

Re: 264 win mag

It would depend on the barrel profile, a good portion of the original chamber would need to be removed to allow the new cal. reamer to clean up the old chamber. The bolt face is also different so a bushing and sako style extractor will need to be installed in the old bolt or a replacement will need to be procured. Hope this helps

264 win mag is basically a 300 win mag in 264 caliber. Your current action/barrel is set up for belted MAGNUM cartridge with the big bolt face and long action pull. 6,5 x 284 is a rebated cartridge, bolt face is more .308 style just a longer powder column. You CAN do it in long or short action but BF matters. If you went fag mag on same setup you'd find it would be difficult to extract hulls. So it depends on the headache you are willing to purchase.
