Re: 270 Loads
This load has worked very well for me. I've taken 3 deer with it this summer the closest being 145 yards and the furthest 280 yards. Those were both neck shots. On the 200 yard deer, the first shot spined it and the finishing shot was a neck shot. I've found if you put one shot in the neck with this load, the deer is dead right there.
The Remington Core Lokts were more accurate than I had imagined they would be and IMR 8208 XBR meters wonderfully. I usually weigh individual powder charges but after weighing dozens of rounds and finding that my powder measure was always throwing dead on, I finally started throwing charges.
The load works well on stuff besides deer. There was a ground hog behind my house that had been taunting me for a couple of months. It seemed that every time I saw it I didn't have a gun or it was too far away or it went to its hole before I could draw a bead on it. Finally, I saw it, opened a skylight on my house and drilled it from about 150 yards. A few days ago, I got another from about 75 yards with this load.
Then there were the crows. Two or three months ago, I shot one whilst laying prone in my front door. A 270 does cool things to a crow. Several days ago, the crows, apparently having got their confidence up, were in front of my house again and I used the 270 on another one from my front door much to their surprise. With the first crow, my wife, a.k.a. Sweetsums, claimed my shot deafened her maybe for life so with the last one I handed her a pair of ear muffs and told her she needed to wear them.
By the way, the brass and bullets for this load were purchased from Sniper's Hide own crod1972 who is a great guy to deal with.
