Have this 270 thats been sitting around for a little while that I decided I want to use more. So, anyone want to share some load suggestions? I checked around and couldnt find any (to include the top section here).
.
Will be primarily the 130gr weight Im looking for, prefer either Varget, H4831sc or H4895 thanks....

Re: 270 Loads

I've never tried mine with varget but it loves H1000 and 150 Bergers. Also the 135 SMK's shoot very well. I'll be running them across the Chrony tomorrow to see If RE17 gives me good speeds.

My 150 berger load is
Nosler brass
CCI250
H1000 @ 55.5gr
Loaded into the lands, about 3.45" I think

Shot from a Remmy 710 (I know) with a 24" 10 twist barrel
Its a hammer at 600 and has about the same drop as my 308
I'm trying the RE17 hoping to get the speeds that would make this quite that flat shooter. I'll be back with info tomorrow.

Re: 270 Loads

58g 4831sc
130gr Hornady SST
Win brass
CCI primer
OAL 3.330
2995 fps average
Fired from a Steyr Mountain rifle 20". Some muzzle blast but very accurate and will anchor a whitetail with athourity.

Re: 270 Loads

Got the RE17 with 135smk numbers today and they look promissing. I started off at 50g and worked up in .5g steps. I got to my goal of 3000fps pretty fast and ended up with a .5moa group at 200 with 52.5g going 3052fps. I had rounds loaded all the way up to 55g and never hit pressure. The primers started to loose there round (didn't look like new) at 51g and the primers never changed from then oun out. The other result form that was that I never got another fps out of them. The groups were still tight but POI shifed with every .5g step up.

Just for fun, If this doesn't sound so hot to you, look up the balistics of the 135 smks at 3050. Its a smoking round. Now to take it to 1000 and beyond.

Remington 710 24" 270 WIN
Nosler brass
CCI250
RE17 @ 52.5
135 smk @ 3.45
3052 fps

This load has worked very well for me. I've taken 3 deer with it this summer the closest being 145 yards and the furthest 280 yards. Those were both neck shots. On the 200 yard deer, the first shot spined it and the finishing shot was a neck shot. I've found if you put one shot in the neck with this load, the deer is dead right there.

The Remington Core Lokts were more accurate than I had imagined they would be and IMR 8208 XBR meters wonderfully. I usually weigh individual powder charges but after weighing dozens of rounds and finding that my powder measure was always throwing dead on, I finally started throwing charges.

The load works well on stuff besides deer. There was a ground hog behind my house that had been taunting me for a couple of months. It seemed that every time I saw it I didn't have a gun or it was too far away or it went to its hole before I could draw a bead on it. Finally, I saw it, opened a skylight on my house and drilled it from about 150 yards. A few days ago, I got another from about 75 yards with this load.

Then there were the crows. Two or three months ago, I shot one whilst laying prone in my front door. A 270 does cool things to a crow. Several days ago, the crows, apparently having got their confidence up, were in front of my house again and I used the 270 on another one from my front door much to their surprise. With the first crow, my wife, a.k.a. Sweetsums, claimed my shot deafened her maybe for life so with the last one I handed her a pair of ear muffs and told her she needed to wear them.

By the way, the brass and bullets for this load were purchased from Sniper's Hide own crod1972 who is a great guy to deal with.
