I've got some Hornady SST 140 grain bullets I'm going to start with for my Interarms Mark X rifle. Any experienced suggestions for powder and weight to start with? And any thoughts about magnum vs. regular primers?

Ok, been loading for the 270 win for a while, IMR 4350 is my go to powder. I selected it after studying reloading manuals way back in 80’s. It still is great powder for the 270. Also, using it in a new 270 WSM that I just bought last fall.
My old Ruger M77 seems to like 130 grain Sierra the best, but I’ve used Nosler BT’s also and they shoot pretty well.

The 140’s are probably a good choice, I’m using them in the WSM.

Can"t go wrong with IMR 4350, although I have not had good luck with the bullet you're wanting to use(Early Ruger 77 - 20" tube) or any 140 GR bullet for that matter. 130 Nos ballistic tip on top of 52gr of IMR 4350, or my favorite, 110gr Barnes TTSX over 63gr of Ramshot Hunter. The Barnes will do anything the heavier bullets will do within reason. Look at hornady's website, see what powders they suggest and use what ya got on hand. My .02
