I have a 300 wsm with a 28 inch barrel and 1:10 twist. I was told that it is best to shoot 180 grain bullets out of this rifle because they will be the most stable. However I really would like to try some heavier berger hybrids in the 200 grain range. Do you guys think it could stabilize those or am I best sticking around the 180 mark?

Re: 28 inch barrel question

A 28" pipe with a 10-twist will easily stabilize projectiles greater than 180 gr (ie. longer bearing surface). If you look at the Berger website, you'll see that they recommend a 10-twist for their 215 gr and 230 gr match hybrids. Alternatively, you can use the following link to a twist rate calculator courtesy of JBM ballistics and input the numbers yourself to see what is the minimum twist necessary to stabilize a specific projectile.
