280 ackley

Re: 280 ackley

162 Amax, 168 & 180 Bergers of all flavors, 168 and 175 SMK's will all work very well in this chambering.

Ballistically it is a very close twin to the 7mm Rem SAUM.

For those heavy bullets H4831sc and RL22 work in the 160-170 range, H1000 works really well in the 170-180 range.

Re: 280 ackley

I was comfortably driving the 180 Hybrid Bergers to about 2850 without any pressure signs during the summer with RL22. It shot very well in excess of 1500yd from a regular 280 Rem.

The potential to get them over 3000fps is there with a long barrel and RL17 but I have some reservations about how consistent the 17 is rumored to be at those kinds of extremes. Anything I wanted to accomplish was done at 2800ish fps with the 180s.

162's and H4831sc was a freaking hammer at 1000yd and more from that rifle.

Re: 280 ackley

2850 is perty good from the standard 280, i've been running the 126's about 3120 and using rl-17. I tried the 4831 and the 17 just shot great so i quit. But my initial plan was to run the 180 bergers, now i wonder how much i would be gaining?
