.284 Winchester

Ok so I ordered a .284 diameter barrel from Krieger with a 1:9 twist wanting to do a 7mm-08AI build but know I'm thinking .284Win looks just as good. My reason for the 7mm-08 was I have seen one that is pushing 120gr NBT's at 3400fps with 23 or 24" barrel which I think would be a great varmint round, my question I guess is which would you choose? All I have really found on the .284 pushing anything very fast is the 180's which I don't think I could stabilize.

9 twist will stabilize the 180's almost all the time and the 168/162's without trouble. The 284 will run anything you want in the 7-08 AI faster than the AI.

+1 You won't be sorry going to the 284. Definitely my personal favorite.

do you have a short action or long action? if a short action, are you willing to do some receiver mods and go to the seekins wsm bottom metal?

I planned on using a Underground Skunkworks remmy style action, I wanna keep it with a hidge floorplate. I'm not that fond of dbm set ups.

i'd make sure you can load to 3.1"+ oal if you want to go with a .284.

I'm working on that, just waiting to hear back. BTW Mike at Underground has been very helpful with all my questions regaurding his actions, really did more than most would do I'm sure.

i have no first hand experience with mike's work or products but from his posts here and a few pm's, i'd have 100% confidence in working with him.
