I plan on working on some loads using 185 VLD's in my 30-06. I plan on using H4350. I did some searching and dont see many loads using the 185. So Hodgdon's list 57.5grs for 180's and I figure H4350 at 57 grs would be max.

Anybody have any good experience with 185 vld's?

Re: 30-06 185 vld

Surprised no replies using 185's in 30-06. I ended up testing them using H4350 and decide to use 57grs. Had really good es and sd numbers.

I haven't done much testing with vld's hunting bullets. I play with seating depth from .010 to .090 off the lands. Nothing greater than .9 and smallest was .5 Do vld's need be shot at 200 or 300 yards to really see whats going on?

Re: 30-06 185 vld

I loaded up some 185 VLD Bergers in my Model 70 using the same powder, used WLMR primers but don'r remember the charge, Got it written down elsewhere. Groups were better than any other facory or hand loads, best group was about 3/4" at 100, 4 in 1 hole and 1 just out. Others were ok, biggest at around 1.5" at 100. Using same powder and bullets in my Model 70 300 SWM with lots better results. My 30-06 isn't the greatest. 300 WSM is really consistent though. Had the bullets just touching the lands too, on both the rifles.
