My current situation:

My factory rem core lokts and winchester super X bullets dance around the 80.00mm mark in length.
After using the L-N-L hornday gauge i believe i have found the lands at 86.65mm
i have made a few dumbies at 86.55mm and slammed them home several times with no shift in OAL.
what my concern is, while i know all all rifles are chambered with different free bore lengths, i was surprised to hear of 6.5mm a difference.
with a long action i have no problems with COAL in the hinged floorplate.

so my question is, is this normal?

Re: 30-06 depth seating. factory vs handload

Yes, especially if it is a factory gun measuring factory ammo. I just measured a factory 150gr Win Power Point @ 80.6mm and my 210 Berger hand load @ 85.38mm. The ogive measurements are both with in 0.01" of each other which I found interesting.

Cheers,

Doc

Thanks Doc, the rifle is a rem cdl sf.
The first chance I had to sight it in and get a feel for the stick I was surprised when some factories wouldn't allow the bolt to close, some would some wouldn't it honestly felt like no-go gauges with ammunition,
Then when the oal Gauge said try them 6mm longer i couldn't get my head around it.
Soon as I get a chance to poke a few down the tube, hopefully good results will have me forgetting this issue all together.
