With all the threads and chatter about the 06', along with the new Remmy rifle, I'm in. Will have one in the next month or so.

I don't reload yet, but that too is coming as well. What is the heaviest bullet you can load in an 06'? I am curious, as I will probably use it for some bigger game, like Nilgai, as I live in Texas. Thanks for the input guys.

I believe Shane (MontanaMarine) played around with 225s from Hornady but general wisdom says 208/210 is about as heavy as most go. There is a three page in the depot dedicated to the good ol '06....

210 looking at my books. My hunting load for 30-06 is a 180gr Hornady Interbond at 2700fps. I would trust that on anything in North America to include grizzly. Just get good shot placement.

I used 200 grains from Alaska to Africa on game with great success. The Swift bullet cannot be beat for reliable terminal performance.

A 30-06 "oldtimer" here. Still have my first '06 which my Dad bought in 1950 or the whopping total of $12.85. A sporterized 1903 A-3.

Over the years when the '06 was king it was a given that you could load it from 110 gr to 220 gr with great success. For me, the Hornady 208 gr A-Max and a 30-06 is a match made in heaven.

308Sako, I don't even own an 06' yet, lol. That said, I used to own a 300 Win Mag, and shot the 200 gr. Swift A-frames out of it, and they were something to behold. They were really great terminal performers for sure. I wonder how they would compare to something like Nosler Partitions, and Interbonds? All know killers for sure. I think that the A-Frames I used to shoot, were Remington Safari Grade.

Thanks guys for the input! So am I understanding correctly, that with the 1/10'' twist of the Remmy Long Range, 210's would be about max for the twist rate? If so, I am more than sure that would be plenty. I am really excited to get this gun, and get into this project.

I like the 200gr accubond and 208 amax for hunting... Different bullet construction, deifferent velocity requirements for expansion. Depends on what you're looking to shoot at game wise and how far away. Accubonds for game up to grizzly bears up to 500 yards. After that velocity starts to drop and reliable expansion starts to fade. 208 amax for caribou and moose up to about 700 yards for me. Although the numbers say reliable expansion should happen out to 1000 yards depending on atmospheric conditions running at 2700fps. Beyond 1000 yards I don't have enough confidence in the expansion.

My father-in-law preferred 180 grain bullets but would use 220's. Factory Remington corlokt bullets, the round nose style. They shot very well in his Remington and Browning auto loaders.

The best accuracy I've ever had from my 03A4 was with Sierra 180 grain bullets. I could bust 3 out of 5 1 gallon milk jugs full of water (filling them with water was the only way to tell I'd hit them) at 500 yds. I will also say I used IMR4350 powder. The slow burning powders seemed to work better for me.

One more thing. Reload for accuracy, not velocity. Who cares if the group is 3" lower at distance - if its half the size.
