Suppressors .30 or .22: Best First Suppressor?

My first can was a TBAC Ultra-7 .30 cal. I don’t regret it at all. For center fire I would recommend .30 cal for a first suppressor.

Agreed. I shoot my centerfires 10x more than my rimfire. Also got an Ultra 7 as my first can.

I have to confess, I am of the belief that suppressors are sort of like tattoos. When you get your first one you are more likely to start looking for a second one. My first one was a long time wait 2years and 2weeks but my second and third only took 48 hrs and the fourth was about 72 hrs. I think it was much quicker than before because I had a UPIN after the first. I forgot to mention that the first one was a 22 Rugged and the 2nd and 3rd were Otter Creek Lithium and Polo k . The fourth was a Sandman x ( impulse buy)

I know this is an old post, but here are my thoughts.
I started my collection with a 30 cal SpecWar 7.62.
My thought was that a 30 cal can would be more versatile with the different calibers I had.
The 22 can limits you to just that. If you are talking a 223/556 can you are still very limited.
So, my thoughts are 30 cal first then add as you need to.
The only problem is that it is a very addicting hobby.
I now have 12 cans in different calibers ranging from 22 rim fire, 556, 6.5, 30, 338, and 46.
Yeah, there is something wrong with me. LOL

I'll be the contrarian. For my FIRST suppressor, I'd buy the SilencerCo 46M with plenty of 5/8x24 mounting adapters. It will suppress, though not perfectly, for everything smaller in caliber. As I accumulated more funds I'd buy more caliber specific suppressors. I didn't do it this way and have purchased so many cans that I need a go bag to carry them all. My most used suppressor is a .22LR Sparrow. All day fun that one is. The 46M I've used on my lever guns. It's a hoot with a .375 Winchester.

For better or worse I am getting a Griffin Bushwhacker 46 with a 22 and 30 cal end cap. I wanted to do both with one suppressor and this seems to be the best single option according to what I read and PM's with people who have them. Local guys did their best to talk me into two different ones but had no experience with the Bushwhacker to give a qualified yay or nay on it. Maybe if Griffin drags their feet on delivery long enough I will get to dodge the $200 tax stamp.

My first one was a .30 and served me many years (still does) but they are cheap, so get as many as you want

My perspective… 22LR is dirty and needs a 22cal can. It’s so limited that it wouldn’t be my first choice. If you are only or mainly shooting bolt guns I’d go with one of the traditional baffled suppressors. I use the Hybrid 46M for multiple calibers on my MRAD. If you do a decent amount of semi shooting I would opt for one of the 30 cal flow through or high flow cans. It’s night and day on a semi and still has very good suppression. I have a HUXWRX Flow 762, but also have a B&T SRBS 762 en route, and plan on getting a CAT OBD in inconel since I have so many semi autos. The B&T is for my girls recently built 6.5 Grendel.

For the price, weight, and size the Diligent Enticer handles 30cal supers better than most. I recommend a 30cal welded baffle stack before larger 338+ or flow type cans. The Diligent is one can I have never regretted.

I personally don't like the dedicated calibers as much as just using a .30

In my mind it's safer,

I have a few dedicated calibers and I always check and double check, the 30s are so much easier

Jeez, I feel old.

My first was a Form One back in '82. A MkII with a hybrid 4" ported barrel, then a 8 cup matrix to the end, about 7" overall. It gets cleaned out every year or so, the guts go into a Chem-tool bucket for a day or two then a water rinse, back to like new.

The action is louder than the report, and using my thumb to hold the bolt closed, well, I make more noise spitting.

I need to refinish the old girl, she is getting a bit too scruffy looking. Maybe Duracoat this time, blueing is just too much work for me now. I have a pair of those real pretty wooden factory grips for it...

My 1st was a CGS in .45 for my short barreled UZI. Then picked up a Silencerco for the 7.62. Finally got a Silencerco Sparrow in .22. Shooting subsonic from that is what a silencer should sound like. Now I want another 22 can. Going to make it a dedicated can for the 15-22.

I prefer over bore, can fit smaller caliber just fine but leaves room to grow.
