Has anybody run a suppressed, subsonic 300 AAC Blackout bolt action side-by-side to a suppressed, subsonic 308 Win bolt action?

I have a 308 bolt gun that I run a can and subsonic ammo through and a 300 AAC Blackout SBR AR w/ can but it's not exactly comparing apples to apples.

I'm wondering if the smaller case volume of the 300 would make for a quieter delivery. Heck, after all the bullet doesn't care if it was brought up to speed by a 300 Blackout, 308 or a 300 win mag.

There really is no comparison. I don't have the equipment to measure the report, but the Blackout is dead quiet. With the .308 you have a much louder report as well as the supersonic crack. The difference is the 9.5 grains of H110 vs. 43 grains of Varget. I have a 16" barreled Howa for the AAC platform and a 20" SPS for the .308. The can is a Gemtech HVT-QD and I run it on both rifles.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read your post closely enough to realize what you were asking...mea culpa

I have the both calibers in bolt guns as well, just hearing them I can't tell a difference and thats with the 208 amax in both calibers.

This is what I have noticed.

thats awesome to hear! where did you get your subsonic recipes for the 308?

Good point on the heavier bullets. 208/220s seem to be the limit in an AR. I keep forgetting how close 300 Whisper and 300 BLK are.

Re: 300 Blackout and 308 bolt action suppressed

Another way to look at it is with my 300 whisper bolt gun and a 16in barrel I can run 220s on up with the can and have a nice quiet and short package and run 110vmaxs supersonic that hit harder that most 223/556 stuff again in a nice and short package.

I havent run subs through my 308 bolt because thats why I built the whisper for;)

I now run a 1-4 vortex PST on it the can is a AAC Cyclone.

Re: 300 Blackout and 308 bolt action suppressed

I would bet the sound levels are close between a suppressed .308 sub and .300 BLK sub.
I don't have a 300 BLK yet, but I would venture to say your velocity is more consistent with the sub than with the .308 sub. I have a hard time keeping my .308 subs consistent. I use 10 gr trailboss and 178 amax in my bolt gun and sometimes its subsonic sometimes not. I am hoping with the 300 BLK I am about to build I can get a load that is subsonic and stick with it.

I know I kinda veered OT, but I think this one of the main benefits of the 300 BLK....and of course being able to run it through a semi-auto.
