I have it narrowed down to a seekins or Noveske factory SBR .300 blk. 8" or 12" barrel.

I'd like to hear any first hand feedback on what barrel length you prefer and current turn times (I've waited close to a year for my TBAC 30-BA and will not wait 3+ months just to wait another 5-7 for an approved build).

I'm looking at running my 30 BA on it from time... low volume of fire.

any general insight in this new purchase would greatly be appreciated.

I have a Noveske 16" & shoot it more than my 8" satern. The longer the barrel the quiter it is. Im using a cyclone can with no problems. Both barrels shoot great i just like the 16" for sound. So i would go with the 12" barrel & its hard to beat Noveske!

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

My 10" Noveske Rogue Hunter in 300 BLK has been flawless, without a can. Even with subs, it hasn't choked at all despite Noveske's warning to me over the phone that it may short stroke with subs run bare-muzzle. The Noveske 10" 300 BLK uses pistol length gas, not sure what everybody else is using. Waiting on my suppressor to clear, but I've gotten to shoot the Noveske with my SAS suppressors with the dealer. Totally reliable that way too. I love it, and I feel with a cartridge like the 300 BLK if you're paying for a tax stamp anyway you may as well go really short, it doesn't lose much velocity to longer barrels. I went with the 10" over the 8" as I was going to shoot supersonic as well and figured for pig hunting the extra 2" of barrel couldn't hurt and wouldn't change handling much.

The Noveske Rogue Hunter is a great setup and very lightweight, you'd be happy with it I think, couldn't imagine who wouldn't be.

I have no experience with Seekins other than rings and a SAR rail ala Spike's Tactical, but I have no reservations about the quality of their products in my limited sampling.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

10" seems to be the cut off... under 10" seems to have issues w/ subs unsupressed... 10" seems to run about 50/50... over 10" seems to generally not have issues...

    w/ factory Rem ammo anyway....

and I think Noveske has the gas port size down better than most

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

We have great success with 8" running subs suppressed and supers non suppressed. Tried non suppressed subs in everything you can imagine, Subs non suppressed in any barrel length needs a lot of gas and you will be way over gassed shooting supers that is if you can even get subs to run without a suppressor.. We don't setup our rifle this way, if you want to shoot subs then suppressed is definetly the way to go with whoever you choose. Course we would love to have another happy seekins precision customer customer

    Thanks for your comment Glen.

I guess the deal breaker for me is turn time... can you shoot me a pm or post here what your current lead time is on a fully built 300 blk?

    thanks for your time!

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

My 8" Noveske upper is flawless with all factory ammo - with a can attached. I've shot it FA on a friend's M16 lower, and it's a beautiful brass fountain.

Occasional short-stroking issues shooting subs without a can. Never a problem with supers - can or no can.

I love the compactness of the 8" barrel, and since I don't see the cartridge as relevant past 150 yards, the shorter barrel fits my needs perfectly.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

I shoot a 16" CMMG because it was all I could get at the time with a pistol length gas tube. It runs great with my GemTech Quicksand can. I fully intend to go with an 8" Seekings . Like eracer said, I feel it is a 150yd gun so 8" is about perfect.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

I have both (308 and 300blk) and they are very different animals for very different purposes.

IMO, those two choices should not be in the same discussion due to the differences in the capability/uses of the two different rounds.

Not trying to talk you out of either but it seems to me that you need to figure out what you want to use this new weapon for and then decide on which one accordingly. My vote is get both of them!

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

originally I wanted something light and handy (SBR 300 blk).... I just held a scar 17 and was pretty impressed with how it balanced (very light as well) and functioned.

I know the differences in the ballistics... I was planning on running the SBR suppressed only and dealing with its limited range in exchange for it weight saving capabilities... but after finger fucking the scar 17 it had its pros without a 6 month wait and $200 tax stamp...

curious to see how hard it is to SBR the scar and what barrel manufactures offer such products.

I appreciate your advice on the topic, and yes they are two totally different animals but I just wanted to see what others take is on my dilemma.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

I figured you knew the differences...I was just stating the obvious, no insult intended.

I've never handled a SCAR17 but I do know that my 300blk is pretty nimble, which it will be even moreso once I get the SBR stamp and lose 6-8" of barrel. Guess I need to go ahead and send the form off but I've been putting it off because I have grown weary of writing the batfe $200 checks lately.

Like I said, my vote is get 'em both!

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

I have an 8" Noveske barrel on mine and I've been very happy with it. I usually shoot it with my AAC 762SDN6, but so far it has functioned fine without it. The attraction to the caliber for me was that it performs well out of a very short barrel, so I wanted to go as short as I could. I'd make the same decision again.

    +1

I have an 8" Noveske. I run an SDN-6. It uses a standard buffer.

    My loads:

    175 SMK 11.2gr AA1680

    208 AMAX 11.5gr AA1680

Both cycle reliably subsonic. I have a box of supersonic. I've never shot it. I was going to save it for deer season.

8" is the way to go if you are going to do a 300BLK. With the SDN-6 it's 3"-4" shorter than a 16". It's a real handy rifle.

Currently I run an Eotech. I want an Aimpoint T1.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

pretty sure I'm going with a seekins build in 300 blk... however, I believe I will stay with a 16" barrel(no SBR for me) as I can't stand have thousands of dollars in NFA/ATF purgatory... my order has not been placed yet, but soon. so if anybody wants to try and talk me back into a SBR... I'm all ears.

I'll be running this build with a TBAC 30-BA.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

I thought if you went the 14.5" barrel and you had your muzzle device pinned and welded, you avoided ATF and form 4's since your overall length is the 16" minimum.

I'll talk you back into an 300BLK SBR.

It will be easier to keep the subsonic rounds subsonic.

With a 16" barrel you only gain ~300fps in velocity with supersonic rounds. With an 10" barrel you should be able to hit 2100fps vs 2400fps with a 16".

A 16" barrel with 9" of can that weighs 16oz on the end of the gun is going to be front heavy as can be.

A 10" barrel with 9" of can is just about perfectly balanced.

With a 10" barrel and can the OAL of the gun will be about the same length of a 16" w/ no can.

In my opinion 8" is the way to go. 300BLK is a short range gun. The cartridge doesn't offer that much at longer distance when compared to others in it's class so why treat it like it does. I is a perfect candidate for shorter distance. A short gun brings the 300BLK's fun factor to life.

    Edit:
As a matter of fact I think I'm going to go shoot mine this afternoon.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

Im running the same 10" Noveske as RyeDaddy... So far it has proven to be a great short range hog rifle. Its light, short and easy to manipulate on an atv or in the jeep. Also, when hunting at night from the blind with night-vision it is very easy to move from window to window, spot checking feeders for activity. When using my 16" rifles I tend to bang around the blind just trying to get situated. I am still waiting on my .30 cal can so I havent tried any subsonic ammo.

I load 110 gr Barnes Tac-TX at 2200 fps. For my intended use... The advantages gained by going shorter and lighter far exceed the advantages of adding a few 100 fps with a longer barrel.

    Re: 300 blk info needed.

as soon as Glen gives me an idea of an eta of his builds and if I feel it's reasonable... I'll put my order in for a .300 blk 8" barrel/12 rail build.

Thanks for your input gents. I'm jacked for this build!

    Pictures will be required.

You can put a pistol buffer tube on it till the tax stamp comes back.
