300 Rum or 375 Rum Brass for Edge?

Re: 300 Rum or 375 Rum Brass for Edge?

It's generally better to neck UP, stretching the brass to the neck size bullet.
Necking down can work, but the brass does not "shrink" and the extra material has to go somewhere....

Kinda like putty. it will stretch out smoothly & uniform , but try to push it back and all the excess just wrinkles up.

Well I was giving you generalized info. I personally have not worked with any Rums specifically.
But stretching up just .030" thirty-thousands is not an extreme neck up operation.
In the end, try to get first hand been there done that info, but if I was in your place I'd neck up from the 300 R cases and run with it.

Necking up can create doughnuts. So either neck turn or only neck size part of the neck when necking brass up.

Then with that said, you might have to neck turn when necking down as the necks might be too thick if it's a "tight" neck chamber.

I always neck turn my brass when it is new and FL resized.

As for the die setup I have, does it matter if I use 375 rum brass or 300 rum?

Re: 300 Rum or 375 Rum Brass for Edge?

You want to use .300 RUM Brass, Size it in a .338 RUM FL Die that is set back about .090 off the shell holder.

The .375 RUM Die is used as a Body Die to size that last .090 the .338 RUM die does not. Normally only needed every 3 or 4 firings, when extraction gets sticky.

Hi i use either but prefer the 375 like said above necking up can cause a doghnut in the case but necking down does not both ways work just get whatever is easiest and cheeper to obtain. I think you are better if you neck down over necking up though but it is only a small change in diameter either way but one thing to remember aswell when necking down the cases will grow in length meaning you can trim it back to the correct length but when necking up the cases shrink so the cases will start life short so realy if you can get the 375 it is the best option.

Both cases are identical to the shoulder with the same shoulder angle.
