I have been loading 308 very successfully for a good while now. But my brass has built up and its time to load for my 300 win mag.

Nosler custom competition 190 gr
federal large magnum match primers
Hornady brass & black hill & some ppu

Targets are 600 to 1000. From a 26" barrel

My problem is the powder.

I was goin to get vithahouri n560 but its expensive

I am torn between imr 7828 or imr 4832.

Can someone with a little bit more experience chime in and tell me which is better and why.

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

I use imr4831 with 68gr with a 210gr berger shoots really well at 1150

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

I would consider one of Hodgdon's extreme powders that are less temperature sensitive than the IMR counterparts. Either H-4831 or H-1000, both would work for you.

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

Yeah I would definitely look at H1000 and the 74-77 grains area.

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

DISCLAIMER*****

THIS IS MY LOAD*** Do Not attempt unless you work up to it

I run the 190 VLD Hunters in my Ed Brown 300 over 81g of H1000 and get em around 3050 FPS. I don't have any issues with pressure but I have not tried to run them any hotter.

I run 78.5 of H1000 under 208 AMAx in another remington custom 300 WM.

H1000 and Retumbo are the way to go for the 300WM and 190 + bullets.

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

Don't every one go nuts, but r22 isn't bad option. Running the 208 amax at 2940

Do you specially deliver your h1000 loads. Pow

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

69.4 of RL22,69. of 4895 or 68.5 of 4831sc. I use those loads for 190 smk's, 208 Horn. match and Berger 200 hybrid. Once I had 5 of each of those bullets with RL22 and shot 13 X's on a standard 600 yd. target.

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

Same here - Reloader 22 - is just so easy for me to pickup about anywhere here off the shelf . loves my barrel & the 190 VLD's . Real strong & predictable on out to 1200 yrd . Don't know why people don't recommend r22 more or try it 1st on the 190's .

72.5 grn. r22 / 26" 11-27 / win. brass / CCI or Win. Primers it don't matter .
just @ 2925 on the vel,fps .
.

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

Well i just did my ladder group thx everyone.

The most accurate load for my rifle is 60gr of imr 7828 and five grains of imr xbr 8208 pushing a 190gr nosler custom competition. With federal large magnumbut rifle match.

Limpdick: i was going to use the vlds but they're so damn expensive lol.

Aimsmall: hahahahahahahaha cause his name is delivery its a name joke

Guardian angel: idk if i want to go Near that high. Id rather mix powders to get an even push than cram magnum powder in it. How big is ur muzzle flash? U might be able to cut it down by putting some large rifle powder in there instead ofso much magnum rifle.

I think after i shoot these im going to get some h1000 or r22 it seems to be a common post lol

Re: 300 Win Mag hand load (please help)

I just went thru load development for a 300wm myself. Mine ended up liking RL 22 with 180 Nosler AB for my hunting load. It was very accurate, under half MOA at 500. H1000 was between 3/4 and 1 MOA with the same bullet. Never could really get a 200 AB to shoot under 1 MOA with either powder but I wasnt super concerned about 200 gr bullets at the time. Im sticking with RL 22 for this rifle and load. 72.5 grs was the perfect load, at 73 it started to open up. Hope this helps

You know how to mix powder better than IMR? Very bad idea.
