So I have a remington xcr in 300 win mag.....1/10 twist

I have been shooting 210 smks at 73.5-79 grains of h1000. No signs of pressure....... I had one group shoot 5 rounds at .58 inch ........ the rest is around 1.3 in groups. I used an overall lenght guage to get my length of 3.60....... I am loading it to 3.59......... so the question is, jump ship on bullet or jump ship on powerder...

I have rl 25 and I am considering 208-210 amax....... which one is better.

To qualify this, I reload for my 22-250 and shoot .30 inch groups all day........ I am doing the right things when reloading........ And I can shoot.....

Re: 300 win mag reloading question

hey man to be honest it depends on what you wanna do with the gun? Just punching paper etc... Right now my R700 5R 300 wm is shooting 200 Berger Hybrids best. See this link to my post about it and all my tested a few weeks ago:

It also matters what ranges we are talking too as far as bullet goes.

Ohh 1 more thing, Are you shooting this gun with a brake or no? I am a big guy that can handle heavy recoil all day. The thing is when it comes down to shooting precision its extremely hard not to flinch on an un-braked 300 wm.

Re: 300 win mag reloading question

I am shooting the gun with no break..... I am a big guy as well and dont mind recoil..... also my gun ways alot. I will be shooting at 1000 yards i hope...... trying to get a load work up for 100 before I start stepping out.......

Re: 300 win mag reloading question

you can't always trust the best 100 yard group to be the best at 1000.for best results shoot at 300 -500 yards.this allows the bullet to really show you what it may or may not do.

I've always loaded up in threes with the same powder and same case over all length just stepping up in charge by .3.( to start with )then I go to the range and shoot at 300 yards.when I shoot I aim at different points of aim.while I'M testing I look for pressure when I find pressure I stop.after shooting I let the target tell me which load to start adjusting.thats always the smallest group.most of the time for my shooting I've never had to adjust the load.

for me this is the way I test.if you really want a one hole group at 100 and get it then OK.but for 300 and out shooting you need to test at 300 and out.most people can shoot with any ammo at 100 with OK groups.but when they want to go past that its a guess to what the bullet and person can do.reloading with alot of testing along with good shooting skills gets better groups at longer ranges.

example) a guy I know wanted to kill this one big BUCK.so he went to the bullets ( ammo ) web site and got the dope for that bullet.he then adjusted his scope for a 300 yard shot.well you may be getting the answer by now.OK onto the point.the next day he went to the stand where he always saw that BIG BUCK.( always 300 yards away from the stand )yep the BIG BUCK came out like always.BANG went the rifel, yep you guessed right he MISSED that BIG BUCK.my point he never shot the bullet of choice at 300 yards to see what it was going to do.so he never found out how it was going to work for him.he just thought all he had to do was adjust his scope for a 300 yard shot.me I always know what my ammo is going to do.

Re: 300 win mag reloading question

none of us said 100 yds was the best way to get a 1000 yd load 5R... I am just offering what I have access too. From what I have seen a 100 Yd load for a .300 WM is good for a few hundred yards at the point you start pushing out past 400-500+ you need to start ladder testing of course.

Re: 300 win mag reloading question

your right Dirt Hary but the OP did say he was or could get .30 all day.( with his 22-250 )so I just based off that to what he was doing.I too know a good 100 yard load will shoot ok to 300-500 yards.I just wanted to offer something thats all.not trying to start a pissing contest.

to the OP.you got a .58 with one 5 shoot group.have you tried it again to see if it will do it again.they key in your case would be to see if it will thats if you haven't yet.H1000 and a 208-210gn bullets come out to a good combo for many of us.I too used the 210gn bullet at first but tried the 208gn A-max and stuck with it.for one reason only the cost difference and at that time the A-max was hard to get.so if it doesn't shoot then change something.just keep us posted

Re: 300 win mag reloading question

I did not give all of the pertanet information......

I shoot alot and reload alot.......2-3 times a week at a range.....

I have and do consistanly reload my 22-250 to shoot .3 of inch groups all them time. I load 25-06, 375HH, 223, and lots of pistol calibers.....

Loaded 300 win mag starting off at 73.5 grains and went up to 79 grains......... The load that i shot the 5/8 group was 78.5 grains....... I then duplicated this into 20 rounds and fired Four five shot groups at 100 yrds...... Never got it to shoot under 1 inch with that. So I am little lost I need to shoot at 300 with this gun and it may shoot better MOA than it does at 100..........
