I am wanting to push these bullets somewhere between 2950 and 3000, am I asking to much of the 300WM? My plan is to build a long range gun with either 27 or 28 barrel. It will mainly be used to shoot metal plates from 800yds to a mile, as I tend to have a bow in my hand 99% of the time when chasing deer, elk, etc., but it could end up doing some long range culling on doe's in south Texas. What are y'all running in your 300's with these bullets? Thanks for the help. Also does anybody really think the published BC for Nosler's new Long Range Accubond is correct? It's .014" shorter the 215gr Berger Hybrids, but has a BC higher by .034. If they are correct than that will be the bullet for the 300WM.

I run an 11 twist 24" Obermeyer 5R M24/Rem Target contour so it may be slightly different than your 10 twist, but here it is

210 VLD Hunting 0.005" jam 70.5 H4831sc. Haven't tested beyond 600 yards yet but getting consistent sub 3" 5-shot groups.

200 Hybird 0.005" jump, 71.0 H4831sc. In early stages of load development, but showing incredible promise. One of my first groups at the 100m range measured 0.115"! Next charge up measured 0.252". So yeah they shoot. I'm definitely moving away from the VLD's for targets and sticking with these great Hybrids. My 600 yard tests measured sub 3" - 5 shot.

190 VLD Hunting. 0.005" jam. 73.0 RL22. As with the Reliant powders this one is a love-hate relationship. On a good day she'll group under 2" at 600 yards, on a bad day has trouble holding 3.5" at 600 yards. But it's a great hunting load so I'll keep it.:)

im shooting the 210g VLDs out of a 26in Krieger 1:10 twist behind 71.5grains of H4831SC and getting over 2900fps. no powder compression or pressure signs. i have thought about loading even hotter, but havent had the time.

I use 208 Amax and 210 VLD's in mine with H1000, both work well. The barrel is a 1:10 McGowen finished at 26.25. Both shoot good around 3000fps. I have loaded them hotter, but pressure shows up quickly. I use Norma brass also. I don't know if it helps, but it is great brass.

No fans of the 230gr Berger target hybrid???

Does anyone have experience with this round? I've got a bunch of bullets but no powder. Once I can actually buy some powder I'll be able to tell you how it works, gun is a Savage 111 1:10" twist rate 26" barrel.

The MV from a 26" barrel is listed at 2603 ft/s and the g1 = 0.743, g7 = 0.380

I don't see the point of hoping/expecting a certain velocity from a cartridge/projectile combo (10 ft. from the muzzle)and settling for a "usable group". I think you are probable looking for a little much from the 300wm. Though you might get it.

I run Norma brass, 76g of h1000, Winchester lrg rifle primers under a 208 AMAX. It would carry a mile, I have only run it 1,400. 26' Krieger 1/10

Note, many folks don't use magnum primers. I don't.

I wouldn't worry about velocity, I would look to SD and accuracy. Mine run 2880 ish. SD 7 printing half inch groups.

I'm hoping to get somewhere around these velocities, but will always tune the load to where it is the most accurate. If its 2700 then so be it, I want small groups and EV. Just that the higher velocity would make it easier to get out to a mile for playing around on steel.

230 Berger OTM, 73.5 gr H1000, Federal 215M, Norma brass, 0.005" jump. 26" barrel, based on ballistics I am getting about 2750 fps. Pressure signs starting. Annealing brass every other firing. Shoots consistently under 0.5" at 100 yards, prone from a bipod and brick bag.

Good luck finding H1000. I'm kind of looking for some myself right now...

230 OTM with H1000. 2710fps outta a 24" barrel not real fast but shot it today and could cover my 3 shots with a half dollar at 978yards cross canyon shot with 5mph wind FWIW. I wouldn't worry about speed so much. Win brass, fed 215match and those were put together with a Lee hand press.

I shoot the 230's. both the target and the otm. The otm is , atleast in my case, a little easier to tweak. I'm running 74.5 Retumbo with rp brass and 215m's. had this rig built specifically for the 230's. coal is 3.75". 30" broughton with a 2" shrewd brake and a Jewell trigger on a trued 700 action. Getting right at 3,000 fps with the otm and it shoots a good bit faster than the target. Also shoots better. But I'm in no way looking to shoot MILES, I just wanted something similar to a .338 lapua without spending 300$ for 100 pieces of brass and get 75 loads per pound.
I also shoot the 210 vld with 72.5 r22 and get about 3050 fps.

You do realize that a. G1 bc of .743 in a .30 caliber is unprecedented much less incredible. If one was to build a rifle specifically for these bullets you might reconsider. I've got the otms at over 3,000 fps with a custom win mag designed for these rounds specifically. It's absolutely in no way over doing it shooting that bullet. It's called getting the best ballistics possible out of a notoriously lower bc caliber. As a matter of fact Litz said its right on with the .338 lapua out to 1500 meters.

With the load I listed above, my winmag will consistently shoot under 1/2 MOA. I think the most important thing is to find the node. I had a node show at around 2800FPS, then dispersion until I got up to my current load. I could push it faster, but why? I have plenty of MV to get out to 1500yds, and plenty of kinetic energy to hunt any sized game I want out to 800yds. Faster is not always better. I have always gotten my most accurate groups shooting under maximum load.

I run the 230 OTM and the 225 Hornady bthp with H 1000 75 gr. They both shoot well. I went to 76 gr but my barrel on my Steyr is a little short 23.6 in. I noticed flash signature so dropped it back to 75 gr.
2718 fps. Fed. 215m, nosler custom brass. OAL 3.59

28" krieger 10x twist. 210 berger. 79.5 g. Retumbo. 3050-3100 depending on winter or summer. Its 1 grain under max for my gun. Nosler brass

I can't speak for Norma brass. Seems even more costly than nosler. Nosler is good though. Brass is so hard to find these days you can't be to picky.

If you don't mind sharing, what did you do to customize your Win Mag to take advantage of the otms? 3,000 fps is pretty impressive results.

Sure.... I had the throat cut really long (3.785" coal) as to fit more powder. I had a 30 1/4" broughton 5c 1:10 put on and trued a 700 action bedded to a hs precision stock and also put on a 2" shrewd brake and Jewell trigger. I then started pushing the 230's with Retumbo. So the overall length of the barrel is over 32". It looks pretty funny but I could give a hoot.

just reading and trying to learn I have some 210smk I want to use rl22 any help you can give me I would appreciate it. thanks bill

Bill, I'd be happy to help you out with a very detailed load. It takes about 5 mins of easy measuring on your part, send me over a PM and I'll get you the details. It'll cut down your load development time to <20rd if things go as well as they have been for me.

thanks for responding, pm? I guess that's my rifle specks, 700 win mag 28" douglas barrel with 1/10 twist as you can tell I am new to this long range shooting, but it sure is fun. thanks bill mathews

I finally got some time and played with seating depth and charge weights on the 230 Berger otms. Shot an Awsome group with 75.2 Retumbo 40/1000's off the lands. Pic says 2.887 to ogive but its really 2.987.
