Ok so i am looking to rebarrel my rem 700 in 300 WM looking for a little heavier barrel than the one thats on it currently. My question is where does everyone get their barrels from? Any cheaper yet still excellent quality barrels out there? Or would i be better off finding a smith to build it? If so any info on competent builders i should take a look at?

Thanks for the help in advance

Ive been using a google search for quality barrel manufacturing companies but i have come to realize not all companies have the same quality standards as other. And just because they say their quality is superb doesnt mean that it is. I figured post here and get a few testimonials like the 2 (LRI's) so far for services and products alike.

bugholes.com has alot of components and has a good reputation. Area 419 has components and a great reputation and would be my top choice. LRI as well, i do not have any experience with them but they have a great presence here on the hide and great reputation. I went with a Broughton barrel, several hide members were using them on their 300wm builds so thats what i used. 1-9tw for the heavies. it outperformed my expectations.

I recommend you contact Greg at Southern Precision and get the barrel you want. He's a great source of info about contours, etc. Might help to have a rough idea in mind before you get him on the phone. Then get him to send your barrel to Matt Stewart at stewartrifles.com, let Matt do his thing, and get ready to blame all your misses on you.

You might also call the number at stewartrifles.com and talk to Matt about what you want the rifle to do. That way you will be less likely to end up with something you don't want. Get Matt to do your build.

Don't dismiss x-caliber without a look.

God bless America

I assume you are open to Remage it, since getting a smith was an option.

I have had very good luck with McGowen Remage barrels; I'm looking to order my third now. Both of the ones I have shoot nice tiny groups and clean up easy, no copper fouling.

McGowen will sell you a nut to use a Savage style wrench; Southern Precision will sell you a more elegant Bug Nut.

Ill be honest i had to look that process up i had no idea what it was. But yeah that would be an option. Not that i would do it myself im not about to mess something up lol. But it would def be an option
