Re: 300 WM Loading data
Win cases
Fed 215M primer
68.5 grains of IMR 4350 powder
Sierra 190 matchking
Seating to max SAMMI length
Velocity 2960 FPS at:
222 feet elev
55 degrees F
29.9 barometric pressure
30.5% humidity
At 90 degrees, this load really gets hot, so I save it for cooler weather. I just don't like shooting that load when the bullet hits 3000 FPS.
When Gale McMillan built my M40, he recommended 70 grains of that powder. The Schneider barrel only lasted about 850 rounds and that load was only with new brass...I reduced the load, and got the same accuracy, and about 150-200 rounds more barrel life.
My barrels last about 900-1150 rounds before the throat goes...I usually replace the barrels, but the last barrel was an Obermeyer that was 27 inches long, so after having 1 inch cut off the muzzle, and 1.5 inches cut off the throat the barrel came right in about 24 inches from the front of the receiver. If I measure from the vent hole on the right of the receiver, the barrel is about 25 inches.
As always, start low and work up your load as over pressure WILL vent itself, and it is usually very dangerous and expensive when it does so.
