I have a question re: a hunting load but first a bit of background:
I'm shooting a Classic Remington 700 .300 Win Mag beautifully redone by APA. Broughton 1:11 barrel, Jewel trigger, blueprinted, bedded, no brake. The chamber is nicely tight, brass growing only .003 on firing. Using load data from before the rebuild, and available components I loaded a "practice" round and fell into an awesome antelope/deer load. Hornady case, 150g Nosler AB, 76.0g A3100, Win mag primer, OAL=3.426, jumping .047 to the lands, 3260fps! This load is shooting consistent 1/2 minute at 500 yds. off the bipod.

So here's the question: I want a moose/elk load using 200g Nosler Partitions. As A3100 is no longer manufactured I've decided on H4831. Working up I'm at 74.0g, muzzle velocity=2910fps, no pressure signs at all. This load is already above max for all my books except Lyman which max is 74.0g. As I tweak for accuracy (already good) what opinions are there regarding increasing speed if accuracy goes that way? I know some old data for 4831 was greater than 74g.
This load is using Remington brass & Win LRM primers

Re: .300 WM Loading questions

You are already more then fast enough. You are shooting a moose of which I have killed two. One with a 243 and the other with a .270 with a 130 partition. Accuracy is always key in my book with a hunting load. If youy can get max FPS that is great but even in your combo anything an inch or better you would be doing great in my book. Most moose country you will be shooting closer rather then farther. 200 Partitions shoot about an inch in my 300 with 4831 and that is all the better I can get them to do. That said, it's all the accuracy you will ever need.

We tend to overthink this way to much.Jeff
