300 wsm loads and velocities

Looking for another build. Thinking about the 300 wsm. Something I can shoot from 100-1800 yds, and will keep up with the 6mm/6.5 but with better terminal ballistics. What kind of velocities are you guys getting running 210 Bergers? Is 3000 fps a stretch? And how far can you push them accurately with said load? Thanks guys.

Re: 300 wsm loads and velocities

3kfps with 210 class bullets is on the higher end, but not completely off the wall with the right barrel length.

A 22-24" tube probably won't make it happen though, more like a 26-28" barrel would be appropriate for that kind of speed goal.

I haven't put the 210 class through my new 24" 300 WSM yet, just the 178 Amax to ~ 2925-2950 based upon drop at 1038yd and Mr. Litz's radar verified BC's.

My 26" barreled 30-06 runs the 208's in the 2825-2875 range (temp dependent) and at 1038yd it was shooting the 178's flatter than the 300 was (different powder, well developed load from a developed rifle vs. a new hunting rig). The 178's are known to exit my 30-06 at 3000 on the nose with RL22 adn 2940 with H4350.

Re: 300 wsm loads and velocities

60 grains of H-414 got me a 10 shot average of 2724 fps, Es - 30, Sd - 11. I stopped there, because it was a good accuracy load out of my 25" barreled Win 70.

Re: 300 wsm loads and velocities

Thanks for the input guys. Thats helpful. Definately would go with a 26"-28" barrel. Everything I understand is that the 210 Bergers are pretty hard to beat @ 3000fps for the LR stuff.

What was your drop, and wind deflection at that range (10mph Full Value)?

Re: 300 wsm loads and velocities

I don't know what the 10 mph full value wind deflection was as there were 3 distinct areas of wind that switched directions. I was shooting across some artificial valleys in an old strip mine.

First shot was treated as a 5 mph wind from R --> L, it was closer to an average of 7 mph as I dropped the first one a little left of the 12" wide plate.

Weather was:

28.0 in Hg
34F
51% Humidity
1770' ASL

Drop dialed 31.25 MOA, wind was 4.5 MOA dialed with ~ 1-1.5 MOA held.

Hits were clustered on the 12"x16" target with shots mostly being strung across the face of it (and slipping a couple off the edges) due to my mediocre skill in the switching wind conditions.
