I have a 300 WSM that i have been handloading for awhile. My C.O.A.L. is way shorter than than it could be due to the magazine length so i know the bullet isn't touching but my bolt is farely tough to close..It opens with no trouble and the primers show no signs of pressure.I also don't always have it with every round. I've ordered some go-no go gauges to check the headspace.I've never tried factory ammo to see how it chambers.Any suggestions on my handloads??

Re: .300 WSM

Have you ever measure with a headspace comparator one of your fired cases versus a freshly sized case? If you have a short chamber your dies may be set too long. I have a MS Word file on setting the sizing die to your specific chamber. If you want to send me a regular email I'll send it to you. In the email remind me who you are and what you want. I'll send it out PDQ.

Re: .300 WSM

Yes, it's most likely in your sizing die. Take 1 round that chambers hard, and close the bolt on it a few times. It should put lines or marks on the case where it is contacting the chamber to tell you where your problem is at. The shoulder area is where I'd look first.

Re: .300 WSM

It took a round and chambered like instructed..Yes you can see some marks on the case shoulder..So I take it my sizing die isn't pushing the shoulder back far enough?? Do I need to set the die down further when sizing??

Re: .300 WSM

Correct. First, is your sizing die making contact with the top of your shell holder? You need to get the shoulder bumped back a little further. This has happened to me with a few WSM rifles.

If your die is touching the shell holder, a cheap fix is to take your shell holder and file/sand it down about .001" on the top, and this should solve your problem. Use your caliper to measure the height of the shell holder to know when you removed .001" from sanding/filing. Then size about 5-10 of your problem cases and rechamber them. See if this fixes it. If not, file another .001" off, and that should fix it.
