I've got an Aero 300BLK upper with an 8" barrel. .109 gas port size. SLR adjustable gas block. Suppressed 100% of the time, supersonic hunting ammo.

I would like to chop the barrel down a little more, and smooth out the recoil impulse a little bit. Planning to:
    1. chop barrel down to 6" or so
    2. install JP H2 Silent Captured Spring
    3. drop in a lighweight BCG

I've had great luck in the past with a lightweight BCG and a H2 SCS when paired with the adjustable gas block, it made the rifle a whole lot smoother and more enjoyable to shoot. But that was with an 18" 6.5 Grendel.

I just wanted to do a quick sanity check with the folks that do this stuff more often than I do. Am I going to run into any major malfunctions with my plan? Is the 6" barrel length going to cause any issues that wouldn't happen with the current 8" length?

I wouldn't do it. From the research I've done through the years 6" seems to be bare minimum to *maybe* get it to work with some tuning and headaches. Sig managed to make a 5.5" barrel but they probably have more R&D money than you care to throw into this thing. Just get a 2" shorter can, lol. If you really feel the other mods like the spring and BCG can help smooth it out, I'd add those while keeping the barrel intact. Then at least if it doesn't work out you aren't out anything and can use them for something else, unlike a barrel that may not be reliable.

I run a 10" Rainier Ultramatch with my Rugged Surge 7.62 in the K (short config) 100% of the time with 125 TMK supers at 2150... I run a JP spring and spikes heavy buffer and SLR agb. Doesnt get any smoother than this. Runs likens dream and insanely accurate out to 500yd

I wouldnt want to go any shorter than that, especially for killing something.

Lightweight carrier and barrel that short means really bad recoil supersonic suppressed if you intend to shoot suppressed subsonic.

Not worth it for all the possible problems. I have come across several articles stating that 8 or 9 inches is minimum length for reliable function. Granted I don't fully understand the science but seems to be a consistent opinion.
