Start at 100.... shoot about 5 times and see how they are grouping. If they aren't popping atleast 3/4 moa, I would pack it up. The .338 Lapua is just too darn expensive to be plinking. If they are hitting "same hole" groups, get your chronograph (if you got one), let your barrel cool down then shoot a few and see what your average velocity, sd, high, low, ect... is. People laugh at me but I have a program on my iphone called Ballistic:Field Tactical Edition that is AWSOME! Or you can get on line and go to the jbm computer and put in your data and enter your altitude, temp, velocity,...ect.... Once you have your data go to 200, record groups, then move to 300 ect... But in the overall scoop of things, I have found that If you are putting them in the same hole at 100 yards, you should be good to go out to 1k if you have your "ducks in a row" so to speak. If you have an iphone, I strongly recommend that app I was talking about. It makes everything so much simpler. Good Luck. Let me know how it works out for you
