300RUM versus 7mmSTW

Re: 300RUM versus 7mmSTW

Way overkill for target shooting, maybe even for hunting. But who cares right? They're just barrels

For hunting deer through moose either would do fine, the RUM has a better bullet selection, but really both will knock the shit outta you and anything you point it at.

Re: 300RUM versus 7mmSTW

I have a semi custom lightweight rifle built in 7stw with a vias brake. Not much kick at all. I was very suprised the first time I shot it and I am still suprised. I can easily call all shots at 200 yds.

Re: 300RUM versus 7mmSTW

I would go with the 300 Rum.I know ill get it for this but I don't see were the Rum kicks the shit out of ya like a lot of them say.I enjoy shooting mine a lot.I like the big toy's.You hit them with the 300 Rum they'll stay down.

Re: 300RUM versus 7mmSTW

More options for brass if you go STW. Combine that cartridge with the 180VLD & you've got a serious hammer. That being said, I have to vote for the Ultra. You mentioned hunting, the larger cross sectional area of the 30cal boolit is going to provide advantages. With the new LR Accubonds, the new 215 & 230 Bergers & the new(ish) Barnes LRX, the 300mags are starting to show favor once again.

Recoil be damned, put a brake on it & forget it.

Yup. They're in works. The 210gr's are supposed to have a BC of .730
