Whats a good safe loading H-1000 grain range for 300wm?
This is being shot out of a 26" 1/10 twist Kreiger 5R type barrel

I plan on using:
210gr Berger hunting vlds
Hodgdon H-1000 powder
CCI Br-2 primers
Hornaday or Winchester brass

Is it good to work up loads in 300wm by .5gr or 1. grains"since it uses ALOT of powder"

also, anybody having luck with this combo?

Re: 300wm 210gr berger Vld Load?

I could not get good MV using H1000 for my winmag. I got crazy compression as I tried to increase the powder charge. I started low but got no good nodes. Kept increasing in half grain increments, and just when I started to find a sweet spot, the compression got so bad that bullets wouldnt seat properly. I switched to H4831SC, 71.5g shooting the 210gr VLD out of my 26in Krieger 1:10 barrel. MV is 2870, with an ES of 5 after a 10shot group. I can consistently hit 6x6 plates out to 600 meters.

Also, try to the CCI Mag 250 rifle primers. I have a feeling they may be a better choice for you.

Re: 300wm 210gr berger Vld Load?

what about overal o.a.l?

is it not a good idea just to start at 3.340?

The reason I ask is, all these reloading books say not to go past that measurement, is it dangerous?

I am kinda worried, I took a shot case and set a bullet lose in the throat and chambered it so I would kinda get an idea of where the rifling starts and it measures from the back of the case to the tip of the bullet 3.57 is this kinda long? this is on a barrel that only has about 80 rounds through it, and has never been overheated.

Re: 300wm 210gr berger Vld Load?

no its not going to hurt anything if you load the bullets long.you have made yourself a gauge to check the O.A.L. for your rifel.in fact most loads shoot better when loaded long.but at times you can get lucky when you stick to the BOOKS said measurements.the said length is just a length that will fit any 300wm out their thats all.the only thing it will hurt is if you want the loaded round to fit your mag.if your not worried about that then run them longer.just remember you may or may not be able to mag feed them.

for my 300wm my C.O.A.L. is 3.700 ( for a 208gn A-max ) so your chamber is a little shorter than mine.just guessing but I would say your rifel isn't a Remington.for me if I was you I would load the nexted batch useing your new C.O.A.L.but go a little deeper ( say .020 )while working up from say 74.0gn's in .5gn increments to say 76gn's.again looking for signs of pressure.

Re: 300wm 210gr berger Vld Load?

76.5 has got my 210's at 2900 fps out of a 26" rem 700 police. Hot hot hot. Would not recommend loading em this hot. Shoot great though. Temp sensitivity isn't an issue either. As SAMMI goes, I am way over. All loaded at 3.602"
