I am about to start a new 300win mag build. the goal is to shoot the 208amax or 210berger at least 3000fps. I am looking for any experiences people have had with any combos to get close to those velocities. hodgon manuals says you can get 2962 with a 200gr nosler and a 24" barrel so I figure stretching the barrel a bit longer I should be able to get their.

I have heard that retumbo is the magic powder for this, but am looking for any good reloading data for the 300wm and 200gr plus bullets, nosler ab, bergers or hornady amax's.

also wondering what twist would be recommeded, I will not shoot anything lighter than a 180gr and wouldn't mind trying the 240smk possibly so I was thinking 1 in 10 but maybe 1 in 9.

    thanks scott

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

    I use RL22 at 71.6 grains, Win case, Fed215M, 208 AMAX at 3.600" produces about 3000 fps.

how long is your barrel and what twist? what mag system or bdl are you using?

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

Bartlein 1:10" MTU contour flutted, 26". I use the AI mag. It sits in a 1.5 AICS L/A

208 Amax, 75.5 Re-25, 210M, win case, gets to 1K at 22.5-24.0 IPHY, depending temp.

    26" Rock barrel 11.27 twist.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

H1000 will do well with both bullets as well. I have shot about 1000 of the 210s and about 400 of the 208 AMAX. That's with a 10 twist 26" barrel.

There is data in the 300WM loads section in the Reloading Depot at the top of the main section.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

thanks guys anybody try the 240smk in 300wm? my barrel maker has 9, 9.5,10 & 11.25 twist barrels available? suggestions

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

Gonna need the 1:9 twists for sure, that's was what George at GAP told me when I inquired about it.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

Tried them and they shot ok in my 10 twist but I couldn't get the velocity I wanted. I was much happier with the 210/208 grn bullets.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

I did a 10 twist/240's as well, no issues other than cost. The 208's/210's do everything thats needs done with a 300, unless your after something special, if so, theres specialty bullets for that task.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

So far I've only clocked the 210gr at 2780fps out of a 1/10 26" tube behind 69gr H-4831 seated .003 in the lands for an oal of 3.617" iirc. Haven't gotten any opportunities to chrono since August so who knows how the hotter charges will work out.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

so nobody has tried retumbo, currently I am leaning towards a 10twist 28" 3 groove medium palma fluted with badger fte, on a lawton 7000 repeater in manners msc-t. any thoughts?

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

Think retumbo is a little on the slow side for the 300wm, if u had a bigger case like the RUM then it would probably work out better. I think my next tube will be 1/9.5 26" with the intentions of trying out the 240gr smk.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

I have used Retumbo with both 208's, & 210 VLD's. I switched to H-1000 last year. It gives the same speed as Retumbo in my 26" 1in 10, but burns cleaner.
BTW both were able to give me 2950+/- fps.

    Re: 300wm and 208/210gr bullets?

Try out the JLK VLD Long Boat Tail. about $50/125, but ultra high BC's for the weight. I haven't loaded them, but I am working on a .30-06 build where they will be my first choice.
    Good Luck!
