Have a M70300WSM and was wondering about a ball park cost to rebarrel, new bolt, etc... to convert to .308. Or would I be better off just buying a new rifle? Any info appreciated. Thanks,

Yeah, a .308 is a proven useless cartridge at anything beyond 700yds.

Don't plan on shooting beyond 700, but...
I realize the 300's balistics are better, but damn this thing is expensive to feed. I don't reload yet.
I have kicked around the thought of getting a new .223, so I can get more trigger time, and reach out a bit w/ the heavy bullets. But I do like the idea of the .308 as well.

BTW, that was a joke. I shoot my .308 as far as 1400yds, I'm not gonna kill anything at that range of course, but it is still fun to shoot. I was jabbing at the idea that .308 are no good, sure there are plenty of ballistically superior cartrigdes out there, but that doesn't discount another. Just because the round of the day takes a little or even alot less elevation to get to its target does not make the .308 any less of a suitable cartridge. I'm not saying that its better, or worse, it just depends on the user and the application and any other factors you need in your rifle.

Probably not real practical to change a WSM into a 308, you might be better to just buy a M70 in 308 and switch between the two.
Factory 308 ammo is generally cheaper than 300WSM ammo and the 223 is cheaper still if cost is the deciding factor. Reloading will save you money but takes a while to regain the cost of the setup. I can't remember when I last bought factory ammo, reloading is just more fun

I love the .223 also, I shoot mine out to 1k if the wind isn't too bad. you just have to go with a tight twist and some heavy bullets. (like mine, see build thread below)
