.300wsm information

If I were to ask the members of this forum which .308 bolt action rifle to purchase as a starter rifle for target shooting 600-1000 yards, I would get answers like a Remington Model 700 sps varmint, or a Remington Model 700 5r, etc.

Using that as a reference, I am looking to purchase a .300wsm for target shooting out to 600 yards for now. I would like it to be a rifle that I can upgrage as time goes on, as my skill set progresses. Who makes a good base bolt action .300wsm platform, with a heavy barrel? (Something equivalant to a remington model 700 sps varmint in .308.) I have searched remington's web site and didn't really see anything comparable to the 700 sps varmint. (no mention of the heavy contour barrel in the descriptions for the .300wsm) Thanks in advance for any and all input.

300 Win Short Mag in a Remington rifle?

Not a lot of choices, Remington isn't going to help push to popularity of the Winchester cartridge too much, considering they tried to compete with their own RSAUM cartridge line.

300 WSM has easily dominated 300 RSAUM, but Remington isn't going to turn around and adopt it everywhere, they're going to give it a chance to die out as well.

I count 8 models that remington makes in .300wsm; however, they all appear to be a "normal" not heavy barrel contour. I mean I could just get one and shoot the barrel out of it, and then re-barrel with a heavier one I guess. It would be nice to be able to get one with a heavier barrel from the start so that I could shoot more without it heating up too fast. Thanks so far for the input, please keep it coming.

FNH makes 300wsm with heavy barrel. Do you plan on reloading? My 300wsm is built on a rem 700 la for pushing 208amax.

I am planning on reloading. What remington model 700 did you start with? Did you have work done to it afterwards?

If you're lucky enough, there's still a few .300wsm sps varmints floating around from a 2009(?) limited run. I have one, it's a sweet shootin rifle.

Cp3head, I used a adl action. The specs are trued action, badger lug, shilen select match barrel 1/10 26in, badger thruster brake, manners t4 stock bedded,
Bdl bottom metal, bader rings and base and nxs 3.5x15-50 scope.
