Hi guys I have a box of nosler custom comp 175 gr hpbt and was wanting to try them in my remmy 700 sps varmit I just installed a muzzel brake and squared my receiver witch also brought my headspace into spec so now I'm loading test rounds to work up a new load . I'm trying to stay mag length so I can load more than one at a time .So far I have ready some 155 lapua scenars in win cases neck turned ,flash holes deburred ,trimmed to 2.008 for a ladder test . These are what I shoot mainly but wanting to experiment . I guess what I'm looking for is a start charge for the noslers 175 gr custom comps using rl-15 and varget . Any help would be appreciated .

43.0 gr gives a nice, moderate, accurate load with 175 gr SMK's. That said, I have no idea what the bearing surface is on the Nosler's.
In 308, most people are running between 43 and 45 gr Varget for 175's. I would start a little lower than that, maybe 42.5 gr, and work up from there and stop load development if you start to see any pressure signs.

175 smk with 43.5 gr varget fps is with a few fps of fgmm 175 and more accurate in my rifle than the federal stuff. at 300 the best load of everything i've tested. reloaded in FGMM brass with cci br2 primers.
but 155 scenars with 47 varget in lapua brass is close and perhaps better at longer ranges.

45 grains of varget in my 308 runs 175 bergers 2615fps with an spread of 15 fps. 3/4"group at 300 yrds. Bullets are just kissing the lands. No pressure signs at all. lapua brass.

You could start at 42gr and ladder up .5gr at a time. You'll likely find 43-44gr to work fine and give you the velocity you need. RL-15 is very close to Varget re burn rate, just a little more temp sensitive.

I've been running 43.0 of RL-15 with 175 SMKs in my 18" gas gun and in my 20" Mod. 700 @ 2.80 COAL. Both seem to like the load. Varget and RL-15 are pretty close on the burn rate chart.

Saved me a bunch of time. Found a couple of loads that will get me in a 1/2 inch group. Not bug holes but much better than I started out with.

It may just be a fluke but I find that the 175 gr Nosler Custom Comp's and 178gr Horn A-Max use exactly the same loads in my rifle with a slight edge to accuracy going to the A-Max. I attribute the latter to the ballistic tip and a more uniform bullet.
Weight wise, I'm not so sure the 3 gr's is all that big a difference when you also consider there are other variables such as bearing surface, etc. They appear to have all evened out, at least in my rifle.
