I Want to give the 190's and RE-15 a try in my Savage 10FP.

Ive been looking online and the only online manual I can find that lists that combo is sierra and they start at 35.7 and max at 40.4. Sierra is usually pretty conservative with their loads and I've seen guys listing loads of up to 44gr of RE-15 with the 190gr pills with most seeming to be around 42.5gr.

Where would be a good starting point? I was thinking of loading up in .5gr increments from 39.0gr to 43.0gr for starters. Maybe I'm an idiot though. I've been shooting the 175gr MK with 44.7 gr of Varget which is waaay over Sierra's max listing so I think I'll be fine. I'll be using Rem brass.

Thanks,
Maarten

Try 4064. I've never had good luck with 190's in a .308, and with RE15 is hard to get the accuracy nodes right. That, and forget it if the barrel is a 12-twist. Others may disagree.

I run 190 grainers with 41.5 grains of RL-15 out of a 11.25 twist barrel. It shoots excellent. It's shot through GAP set up with a Bartlein barrel. Sorry, but I don't own a crono so I can't tell you what the velocity is, but I can sure group them well at a hundred. Haven't had time to shoot at longer ranges.

Following information derived from Rem 700 SA with 32” Lilja Palma contour, 3-groove, 1:10 twist barrel, .339 neck. Loads were shot over an Oehler 35P with screens set at 15 feet. Unless otherwise noted temp was 50 degrees with variable cloudiness, 3-5 wind. All rounds were loaded into new prep’d and trimmed Win brass .015 off the lands using -.002 neck tension. 5-shot groups were used for testing.

190SMK
44 grains RE15, 210M
M=2731, E=10, S=4
Same load at 80 degrees
M=2781, E=19, S=6

190SMK
44.7 grains RE15, 210M, Shot at 80 degrees
M=2794, E=22, S=6

Re: .308 190grSMK with RE 15

When I was using moly'd 190SMK my load was 45.0gr RL15, in Win brass.

It was loading to mag length and jumping about .15" to the lands. Typical accuracy was about .75 moa from my 1/12 twist Remington. Velocity ran about 2650 fps in the 26" barrel.

Re: .308 190grSMK with RE 15

My 10FCP liked the AA2520 better with the 190's than RL15. While your load may seem hot Lyman gives 45 for a max with the 175SMK's and I know several shooting that load. I run between 44.6 and 44.8 in the summer months but go full bore when it cools down.

AA2520 41gr 210M Nosler brass 2531 fps which will still be above subsonic at 1000yds and very accurate out of mine with the 24" barrel.

Re: .308 190grSMK with RE 15

Thanks for the replies guys. I shot some today and and 42.5grs looks promising. Next time I go I'll need to get ahold of a chrono and get some numbers.

Thanks again,
Maarten

Quickload calc'd my pressure at 57K lbs-psi, at that velocity. So, really not so hot at all. Should be able to push to 2700 fps at about 60K lbs-psi (26" bbl).

I was using moly'd bullets, and Win brass.
