Hello,

I'm in the early stages of a .308 AR build. I'm starting with a TM-10 lower receiver that was gifted to me. I'm considering a TM-10 upper to match the lower, Troy TRX .308 free float, AR Gold .308 trigger, Nikon M308 scope, buffer and spring from heavybuffers.com. The largest problem I have is deciding on the barrel and comp. I'm pretty sure I want an adjustable gas block. Any suggestions? I'm mainly going to use this for mid to long distance paper targets (I haven't shot more than 200 yards with my AR-15, but as I improve would like to eventually go to 600+ yards with this build). Suggestions greatly welcome.

Re: .308 AR build help

JP, PRI, Kies, Syrac, and Paladin Machine make adjustable gas blocks, you need to first decide on your barrel contour so you can match with the gas block's inside dimension.

Re: .308 AR build help

JP low profile adj clamping gas block 70-80$ at rainier and midway. Not pinned or screwed on get clamping.

Fulton 18.5" stainless barrel they are on sale right now unless you want to spend big $$$ in which case krieger, lilja, hart, brux...

I don't really like those new nikon m223 etc scopes. Pony up 500-600 for a bushnell 3-12 used or maybe a Super Sniper 10X HD.

DPMS carbine buffer and spring or armalite short-heavy buffer and AR10 carbine spring.

DPMS 308 BCG should be in stock at Rainier, get it first and then send it to whatever barrel company to check headspace.

Re: .308 AR build help

Thanks for the input. I ordered the Syrac adjustable gas block, and am considering the Rainier Arms Select .308 18" mid-length barrel. Anyone have any experience with these?

Re: .308 AR build help

+1 to BCP on the Fulton. I think it is hard to beat the Criterion for the price- especially on sale. Might look at the 20" too, however. That Syrac gas block probably won't work though as I bet it is .750 and the Criterions will need a .936. Syrac is supposedly coming out with a .936, though.
