.308 Berger VLD 168gr hunting bullets.

Re: .308 Berger VLD 168gr hunting bullets.

Here is the thing, I worked up the exact bullet and had some great results. Only issue is the VLD is a secant ogive. It has a higher BC and better ballistics on paper. Only thing is they like to be seated closer to the lands. Well in a hunting rig( I'm using a sps-V cut to 22"), the max oal I can use in the mag is around 2.830. It will shoot sub moa, and even half moa, but lends itself to an occasional flyer or two. At 100-300 might not mean much, but I want my bullets to hit exactly where I intend.

Berger is working on a hunting hybrid, I will definitely give those a try if they are released before next hunting season. http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2012/01/berger-hybrid-bullets-what-you-need-to-know/

The 12 twist is fine bc it is faster than thae 1:13. Point being, twist rates work backwards. A 1:10 is faster than a 1:12. I shoot em at of a 1:12 sps t and they are a 1/2 Moa round. But you need to load those suckers as long as as you can.

I had the same issue and kept playing with the seating depth, no more fliers now.
