New to The Hide, I just order a Vanquish from Nemessis Arms. I need help in choosing the NightForce Recticle and scope power. Also does any one have or shot one? What kind of info and ammo load data should I start using. I'll be using it for light target and mostly hunting small to medium game.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

You'll want to decide if you want to go MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL. If you go MOA/MOA I recommend the NP-R1 if you go MIL I recommend the MLR. If you want FFP you'll have to use the 3.5-15x50mm, if you go SFP you can chose from 2.5-10x, 3.5-15x or 5.5-22x. I have used the 15x and thought it was a good mag range for matches and LR shooting but I found myself sometimes wishing I had 20x+

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

Thanks for the good info. I was considering the 5.5x22 56 NP R1. as for the hunting rifle. I still have the Marine in me. I would like to shoot live targets. Any one have any hand loading advise? Doing my own research, I have determine and considered starting with Lapua brass, sirra MK IN 175 and 155 sennar. What do you all think.

Need to sign off for now. I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll come back later. Thanks again for your info. Will need more.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

For now I'm just looking at a specific load for my friend to load for me. He's not familiar with the 308. He just started hand loading pistol ammo. I will be looking at All the supplies needed to load my own next year.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

First Off...NICE RIFLE!!!! I have one myself that I lucked out on and picked up on the used market. I did not reload for my 308 barrel since I had a bunch of FGMM 168s sitting here. I ended up having a 260 barrel made up for mine, shooting 142smks. I absolutely love the 260, poor 308 barrel just sits there now.

I had Nemesis Arms make me a 20moa rail since the one that came with mine was 0 moa, I then added a NF UNIMOUNT (20moa built in) with a NF 3.5-15x50 npr-1. I have 97moa to the top and about 15moa to the bottom end from my zero.

Your going to love the system, and get the backpack it is actually pretty handy when heading to the range.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

Very good to hear that. I regret not getting the 260 first. I also like the unimount which is at the top of my list. I know you said the 308 is sitting around, but how much of the difference on the settings on the scope between the two barrels. I plan on trying both at first.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

Not to sure when you ordered it but I am sure if you wanted a 260 Dave would probably work with you especially if he really has not started it yet. Another option is to have the spare barrel made while its there before you take possession.

As far as the zero difference between the 260 and 308.....I can not really comment. When I was shooting the 308 barrel I only had the unimount with the 0 moa base. The 260 barrel and 20moa base came at the same time and I changed everything up when that stuff showed up.

I never did try anything other then the FGMM 168s and they fell off around 700yds or so for me. The 260 seems to be pretty accurate out further and bucks the wind a lot better then the 308 especially the 168s that I was shooting. The only time I really tried shooting a group on paper was at 100yds for my zero and both barrels did just fine.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

Well being that I always wanted the 308 and the 260 came in after. I started hearing a lot of good things on the 260 and I'm curious and just can't help wanting one. Before ordering the 308 I also looked at 6.5 creedmor, 6.5 x47 Lapua but the more I researched all these cartridges, everyone compared it to the 260 and most popular 308. I made my first choice and well this is where I am now. I also didn't find a lot of choices on ammo for the 260. My plan is to eventually load all my ammo.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

700 yards is a good starting point for now. I do like the 260 better. Like I said next year will order the 260 and I'm thinking maybe 22'' barrel also. I've heard you get more velocity. What do think on that.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

USMC DWG, congrats on the new rifle. I think you'll enjoy having it.

I got mine in hand about 2 years ago or so and have loved it since. I'm not sure what serial # they're up to now, but I have a high 2 digit serial and it still says Windrunner on it instead of Vanquish

Nice rifle, on the optics question, if you want MOA you can't go wrong with Nightforce NP-R1 5.5-22. plenty of power to see small targets way out there and you can always power the scope down if you are shooting close or offhand.
I use mine on my .308/7mm08.

Re: 308 bolt rifle (Nemessis)

Pick one reticule and work it on all your rigs. MLR is just fine. I've had them scoped with just about everything, its all good.

David, does bench grade precision chambers, your ammo choices will reflect that. I reload every round that goes through mine. You will be fine with really any quality box ammo.

You just bought one of the very few rifles that 20 years from now will be seen as valuable and a benchmark. One quality crazed German in a room full of robotics...one man, one at a time, every part except for the rubber grip, the trigger and the barrel blank.

The rifle is scheduled to be in four major flixs, including two mega blockbusters. You are going to see a lot of the rifle.
