308 brass too short?

I think they were run through an RCBS X die and trimmed short following. I suppose I'm just being paranoid.

Better off than not when making ammo though I suppose.

Thanks for responding.

Re: 308 brass too short?

Won't really hurt...you can build up a carbon ring ahead of the case mouth if you only neck size and shoot a bunch...if you full length size they will grow over a few firings to fill the gap.

Re: 308 brass too short?

Well for anybody interested in the outcome I went ahead and loaded them up and shot them. I'm still troubleshooting a load, and this may or may not have something to do with a slightly larger than MOA group but I need to do some more testing.

However, there were no pressure signs on the brass, and nothing looks strange about them.

So whatever that's worth.

They did manage to print around 1 moa out of a rem sps stock barrel with 43.7 grains H4895 cci br-2's and 155 lapua scenars for anyone that's interested.

Re: 308 brass too short?

One time I was trimming a huge batch of .223 rem, interpolated the numbers and instead of trimming to 1.755" I trimmed like 500 cases to 1.577"...they still fired, but I since culled them for consistancy reasons.

Re: 308 brass too short?

I trim mine in Forster lathe trimmers and I'll occasionally get the random one that seats a little proud in the collet and gets trimmed down to 1.992 to 1.995" or so. Pisses me off as once I realize it's taking a little more off than it should, it's too late!

I full length resize and have seen no problems, just pisses me off to have 98 or 99 at 2.005-2.007" and one or two so much less.

You should be fine.

Re: 308 brass too short?

Supa_fly beat me to it lol

Courage the 155 scenars fly true when shooting fast

doesnt always need to be hot, but im sure you can fit more in...next range trip load up a few loads with more powder, in small increments and go from there

I feel confident saying you should find much tighter groups if you shoot a faster load.

Im not too sure on powders as in australia we primarily only get ADI powders... but im currently shooting 46 gr of AR2208 with my 155 scenars, ive even taken it to 47gr with no pressure signs, however i get .5MOA or small with 46gr loads.
