Just curious about how affective the federal fusions 165 grain for 308 would be for mule deer and bear out to 400ish yards in idaho? I bought a bunch on sale at Walmart all with the same lot earlier this year. I'm trying to save money where I can, but just curious if i'm making a mistake.

It's a bonded bullet, should be absolutely fantastic, just make sure the velocity/energy levels are fine at whatever distance you wish to shoot.
On top of that, make sure you are able to make a good hit at whatever distance you wish to shoot.

The bullet should be good.

BLUF: Treat them like an all-copper monolithic, and you'll do well.

I don't like the Fusions (or their sister Gold Dots) in other cartridges once the impact velocity drops below about 2,200. They bore holes still for sure, but the amount of pigs that ran off was higher than any other bullet that I used.

I wouldn't hesitate to use the 165s you bought, but I'd make sure that you had some good velocity behind it.
