I have also been watching auction sites for prices on my next purchase. Every once in a while I run arcoss a listing that is for a .308win in a long action. I wrote this off to a listing error or trying to get the most hits on a listing.

While looking through a post on this site a few days ago I saw one as well. I am guessing that anyone who posts a photo here would know the difference. Is this a case of rebarrelling with what you already have or is there a benefit that I have missed. Not saying that I have the greatest understanding of the workings of an action, but to me the fact the bolt face would be quite a bit behind the base of the cartridge at the rear limit of the travel could cause feeding issues during rapid cycling.

Just trying to become smarter (more addicted).
Thanks

Nothing wron with a LA 308. Gives you more versatility in calibers later when you rebarrel. Performance-wise as a 308, you rack the bolt further, and some people claim a LA isn't as stiff, but you'll never see that on target.

I built a 308 on a long action just because that's what I had at the time. Its really just a personal preference unless you plan on changing to a different caliber in the future.

On the savage it is pretty long. I shoot 175 smks and seat them at 2.835 and still have about .25 inches to spare. So you could seat them as far as the chamber will allow you probaly.
