hello all, just starting to reload tools are in the mail, i have powder(rl15) primers (CCI), no brass or 175g sierra rounds yet. can't find lapua .308 ,or lake city lr brass should i hold off to wait for the better brass ? if i am going to hand load i want to build the best i can thanks

Lapua or LC LR (AA11) brass are probably the best brass out there but you shouldnt have any issue using other types of brass. I even see lots of guys getting great results with your basic winchester brass.

First off what are you loading for.IE auto or bolt? The lake city is good stuff. Most people used it for rough use in autos. If you have the standard M80 brass that is crimped you will need it swage the primer pocket. The LCLR brass is like commercial brass it wont need the swaging. From what i have read on the subject. They take the LCLR brass out of the middle of the run when they manufacture a large lot of brass. That is to make it more consistant. The LCLR brass is the same as the old LC match brass from my understanding.I have weighted all kinds of LC brass They all weigh the same except for a few headstamp dates. Some people mix the headstamps and load it.I personnally load Lapua for Bolt guns.

Regular LC from M80 rounds with crimped primer pockets is all I use for .308 When prepped properly it rivals Lapua quality

I wholeheartedly agree. The initial case prep is time intensive, but afterwards its like Lapua. I got 2000 new, pulled LC brass from Crod77 and have about 500 loaded up right now. I swage, uniform primer pocket and hole, cut to length, chamfer inside and out, neck turn to .015, and anneal.

Best brass from my experience, not including LC as they are not available here.

Lapua.
Ruag Match
RWS
Norma

Have tried other american made brass, Win,Rem,Hornady and Federal.
And none of these comes close in weight consistency, compared to any mentioned above.
The primer pockets and flash holes are a lot more consistent, and i rarely find any burs in European cases, as they are manufactured differently, and flasholes are drilled and not punched.
Norma, RWS and Ruag are all owned by the same group, but produce brass seperately.

So there are others to choose from then Lapua if you want high quality brass, still i shoot it exclusively in the calibers i have that's available.
For fx my 7 RM i buy Norma usually as it's easiest to come by, but RWS is just as good if not better. Ruag is not easy to get hold of.

Us made brass i have had best results with Winchester. And i assume Noslers prepped brass is quite good.

If Nosler custom brass is available it is already prepped and weight sorted before you buy it. All you do is load and shoot and the brass is very consistent in case wall, neck thickness and weight.

Nosler Custom Brass
Brass ? Nosler

I say this because unless you have a case neck thickness gauge and a runout gauge you will not know the quality and amount of runout the Lake City brass has.
