Has anyone ran Hornady ELD Match 178’s with IMR 4046, and CCI No. 34 primers? I am looking to load this for a 22 inch 1:10 twist barrel.

I know the the 34’s are concidered a magnum primer, and I will adjust the charge accordingly. Would I be better off running Federal 210 primers with IMR 4064?

The brass being used is fire formed LC, and Winchester. I am just starting to reload, so I am asking from those that may have run this combination.

Are you running this in a semi auto platform or a bolt gun?

most of the people I know that shoot the 34's are using them in semi auto rifles to prevent slam fires (the cups are a bit thicker IIRC).

Other than that, I think the same load data should be fine, you'll just have to see what your rifle likes better. Unless you are close to max loads the difference in the 34/210 shouldn't be too big.

No issue shooting 4064 with 34's, pretty sure that the M118LR round (175SMk's) is 4064.

Flip a coin or test both. Only way to tell for sure.

If youre going to have to buy new primers to try and the 34s would sit on the shelf for the next 40 years then I would go ahead and run them now.

Haven't tried the 178's but I run the 168s in a 22inch 1in10 with LC brass and 42gr of IMR4064, I have a fairly tight chamber and they are going about 2725fps, if you use the velocity comparison formula from AB that put the 178s at 2650ish fps

With the LC Brass try 41.5 grains (i’d Dedicate a few shots for a pressure test work up, then try 5 or 10 at 41.5).

I’ve tried a few of these and the 4895 load with FGMM brass was dead on

Win brass will need a little bit more powder
