Im an active shooter looking to break into the long distance world. I'm looking at getting an accuracy international aw series but I don't know if I want it in .308 or .300 win mag a grand is about as far as I'm wanting to go, but I'm in a line of work to were this rifle (when I get good enough on it) may see more than paper targets so I need ballistic integrity at that range. I've got a lot sniper buddies telling me that .308 loses it's punch at 1000yds, but I'm worried about ammo availability of the 300 win mag in foreign countries. I'm just looking to weigh some options so any insight will be appreciated.

I'd guess you'll be supplied ammo for foreign excursions.

That being said, if you run out of ammo you have an expensive club.
308 w/ammo trumps 300WM w/o ammo for keeping non-friendly people away from you.

Worth what you paid for it.

A buddy of mine has a Mk13 clone that Mr. Roscoe built for him (.300wm) that he loads 208 A-MAX's in and has STELLAR long-range performance.

Side by side with my 12 twist 24" 5r and hand loaded 175 SMK's, he was holding a sub 6" group in high wind and I was getting blown all over the place. I was coming up 37mins and he was on target at like 30, it was nuts how laser beam accurate that big pill was from a MUCH more affordable alternative to the 338LM

my thoughts exactly .308 will be a little easier to find if I find my self running short I guess I'm looking for more of an affirmation that the .308 can do what I need it too at that range or make sure I show up with enough 300wm. On the plus side my accuracy at 1000 might be questionable, but if it comes down to it I can hold pretty good groups at 1 yard with a butt stock

.308 to 1000yrds.
.300WM to 1500+yrds.

I would say if your new and just breaking in to the LR world, I would go with the. 308. You will learn better off of that. There is alot more i could go into why a .308 but my first sentence pretty much explains it.

I was in your same position and bought a .300wm and wish i would have bought a .260 or. 308. I think (I know) it would have been alot easier for me in the beginning.
The. 300WM and the bullets they have step the .300WM up to another level. Such as with the new 225gr. Hornadys and the Berger 230gr. Like you said the 208gr. A-MAX (also the 210gr. VLD Berger)is amazing with the. 300. I have a load with RL-22 that shoots lights out.

Since your an active shooter and know your way around a rifle a .300 wouldnt be as hard to handle as if you where a totally new shooter and new to shooting all together.
I also reload and that makes HUGE money savings if your shooting the .300 plus some awesome bullets to choose from.

Decisions....decisions ....!
