Gunsmithing 308 reamer for Lapua brass and 178amax???

I've been searching for a while now for a thread that will help me pick the perfect chamber reamer for my .308. All I have found is for the 175 smk and the 168 amax. What would be the best reamer for Lapua brass and the 178 amax at AICS mag length.

PTGs 308 Bisley comes to mind.

I think that the Bisley is a little short in the throat for this bullet. I could very well be confusing them, but I think that the Bisley has about 0.050-0.055" of freebore.

I would suggest a setup with about 0.080-0.085 of freebore for that setup.

I'm running it in my 308, the chamber was initially setup for 175 SMK's by the builder and I've had absolutely no issues stuffing 168, 178 Amax, 168 and 175 SMK's in there at AICS mag length while getting it to shoot bugholes.

Best solution would be to talk to PTG directly, I doubt you'll have to even send Dave Kiff a dummy round, he probably has the spec handy for a common bullet like that.

Make a dummy at your desired COAL and send it to PTG. Keep the reamer for future builds. It'll be the best $150 you ever spent.

When shopping for a good tactical 308 reamer I called and talked to Dave Kiff... 308 Tactical Match reamer, that is the one he recommended hands down and 'the' choice. But you can call him yourself and describe your circumstances.

If your open to bullet shopping a bit, take a look at the Berger 185 BT (not the VLD's) they have a very high BC and shorter bearing surface than the VLD's which generate more velocity. Scott from Vortex is pushing these rounds a little hot with a longer barrel and it gives the same ballistics as a 260 once you push them 2800+. I haven't got a chance to play with these but those that have like them. Only issue is you need to run a longer barrel to get adequate velocity to make the 185's beneficial.

Just another alternative to the 178 amax.
