Just got into reloading and purchased a hornady lock and load AP press. Going to start out with the .308 for my LMT MWS semi auto. Any suggestion on which .308 die set I should purchase? Any info / help would be greatly appreciated.

The Redding NM set looks real nice. I dont think small base is necessary. I'm using Dillon dies for my 30-06 needs but I'm interested in trying the Redding NM set up, mainly for the micrometer seater, when I get set up to load .308 for my MWS.

I really like the regular RCBS .308 dies. I wanted to like the Hornady new dimensions, but both sets I tried seemed a little too tight almost felt like I hadn't lubed the cases at all. FWIW, I run the hornady's on most other calibers and have no complaints.

I normally stick to those 2 brands, although I hear great things about all, in some cases I think its just personal preference more than "better" dies.

I have used only Redding match dies and Lee dies and after using the Lee I wished I would not have bought the Redding. The Lee dies are just as accurate but about $80.00 cheaper! I too shoot a semi auto and I dont think the semi can exploit what differnces there are in between good quality dies. Benchrest rifles may but I don't think semis can. Seriously I don't think you can go wrong with any of the major brands.

I have the Redding competition die set, I do not find a lot of "added value" from the micrometer head on the sizing die, but love the body die and the bullet seater with the micrometer head. So, the NM set is what I would have prefered had it been available when I bought my set 5-odd years ago.

Redding are great dies. You might run into issues if you are looking at their competition die if your loading crush charges or using them on a progressive press. I normally stick to NM or just their STD Dies.
