What is this? I have seen some builders say the bore is a tight bore and give a .298 dimension. Whats the diffrence's in that and a regular .308 match barrel? Also if there is a diffrence whats the advantage of it? Will it last longer or wear faster since it is a tighter bore? Would assume wear faster but maybe give higher velocities over regular match barrel.

Standard for .308 is .300-.308. Tight bore is .298 or .299-.308. Tight bore will normally yield higher velocities with the same amount of powder, same velocities as factory ammo with less powder, or higher velocities with a shorter barrel.

Wearing out faster, so far haven't seen that. Shooting hot and hard will wear the barrel out faster then anything except maybe over cleaning it.

Krieger tight bores can be had in .298-.3065, .307, and .3075. If you plan on shooting bullets with short bearing surfaces, then a tight bore might be beneficial to barrel life.

So is it a chambering thing? I have heard people chamber their guns in .308 Win, 1995 Palma, exc. Thinking about building a gun. Would it be good to do a tight bore with 1995 palma chamber. Will be a work/target gun. Mostly target. It is going to be 18.5 inch barrel. Will mainly shoot factory loaded 155's,Hornady TAP 168, and FGMM 168.

Chamber and bore diameter are two different things. Talk to the rifle builder on your wants. The Palma reamer can be used but a lot of builders use the Palma reamer as a base then have it modified for bullet type and even brass maker.

Wanting something that will shoot the ammo that I mentioned before very well. Dont have time to reload so I will be shooting mostly factory stuff. Is the Hornady 155 palmas any good? Also do you still have the 002 for sale? Its on your page as forsale. If I were to buy it could it be cut down to the 18.5 w/SF brake like the 001 Guardian?

    Re: 308 Tight Bore?

I have a 298-.3065 tightbore krieger 12 twist finished off at 18". Mine has whatever standard .308 chamber that my smith (Wi50) normally uses. (PTG I think. I'm not sure on the specifics.) I told him that I might want to run something heavier so we ditched the idea of a palma chamber. Also it gave me piece of mind since mainly I wanted to shoot surplus ball.

Mine shoots M852 at the published velocity of 2550 ft/s. I thought that was pretty good since the barrel was basically 6" shorter. Also South African ball shot MOA, which I was happy with.
